iPhone Dictation not working iOS 16

The solution I found was to delete the English(US) keyboard and then add a English(UK) one. With that dictation mostly works correctly. When Apple does the real fix, then we can go back to the correct keyboard.

I had the same problem here’s what worked for me.

Go to Siri and Search and change the Language. I picked French. Restart iOS and it magically worked. Oddly, the playback voice was still English even though the French setting had taken effect. I switched back to English and everything’s working so far.

I fixed it on my iPhone 13 Max Pro by switching the keyboard to English UK.

General > Keyboard > Keyboards > "Add new keyboard"

I just tested English Canada, New Zealand, etc. (they all worked just fine.) and now I am dictating this on English US, and it is obviously working.

This is SUCH a weird issue. At least it works. That’s a relief. Now I hope they figure it out and fix the problem for real.

As suggested below, I switched the dictation keyboard from English US to English UK. Dictation is working again with extra U's and other UK English conventions ("Colour" not "Color"). This is super-annoying!

Tried multiple solutions and this one did it for me. Changed the languages on my keyboard one at a time. Added an English language, test dictation, add different English language, remove previous one. Then add English US back and it/dictation works again.

Dictation isn't working for me in my standard keyboard (English U.S.) either. Thanks to this thread I added English Australia and it works just fine when I select that keyboard. Also had to switch Siri and Search to English Australia for that to work.

I sure hope Apple releases a fix to the English US keyboard and Siri and Search asap.

same as others. Last night 10.15.22 it worked perfectly. I got up this AM and it didn't. the phone hears "hey sir" and I can use the voice memo app. but dictation does not work in any app I've tried. And when Siri responds to "hey Siri" it always get the error message - "working on it" - followed by "something went wrong". Like others, I added an Australian English keyboard and turned off dictation for the US English. Dictation works fine, BUT...

Siri still does not recognize requests (although hey Siri works??)

Yes! I was told the same but unacceptable as it has been weeks and nothing. There was a workaround when I switched to Canadian English but now that has stopped working to.. apple needs to fix this quicker

I’ve been having the same issue and been checking forums and articles everywhere to fix. Finally tonight I found something that suggested adding English (UK) as a keyboard and now the dictation works under the English UK but not US

hope overall the big gets fixed but happy I can use again.

My iPhone 11 dictation works as expected in my Ford pickup with Carplay on, and away from my vehicle with the Lightning plug-in earbugs and microphone. Direct dictation otherwise still does not work.

Go figure.

Mine seems to be fixed. I enabled English UK, English New Zealand and English Canada. Then bounced to UK, New Zealand and Canada a few times and then came back to US and it is working for about two days straight now without any issue. I have no idea how or why I’m just glad that it does. Obviously there’s a bug in there that APPLE needs to fix but the workaround of using English from other countries a few times seems to have reset my English US. That’s that for now.

I have no idea how APPLE is going to fix it because it’s such a weird problem. But I fix mine by installing three other English keyboards, Canada, UK, and New Zealand. After using those a couple times each, I went back to the English (US) and it worked and is still working three days later. it’s a mystery but mine is working so I’m just gonna roll with it for now

Finally found a YT video to help. I had a dictation issue. There are a lot of tips here, but deleting and re-adding the US keyboard finally fixed it. Bought this phone a month ago and had this issue from the beginning.

Has anyone received any information as to when the dictation and Hey Siri issue will be resolved? It’s really tough not having it. As soon as I downloaded ios16.03, the issues began. When I called Apple, they admitted it was a known issue.
