Apple Watch Ultra digs into wrist and causes a sore

I've been wearing Apple Watch since series 1 and the one I own now is series 5. I wear it every day, every night while sleeping. I just upgraded to the Ultra and noticed that the sensor at the back protrudes a lot more, is more curved and digs into the wrist more. After just 2 days of wearing it, I'm returning it today as my wrist feels sore and sensitive to touch. I've had to remove it for 5 minutes every day just to ease the sensitivity. At first I thought I've put it on too tightly but no, comparing it with the watch 5, I can now see the sensors are more defined, rounded, protruding and dig into the wrist.

Also the larger crown, when rotated, digs into the skin and causes abrasion. I am wondering if I'm alone with all of these issues? I want to now replace it with a series 8 but looking at the pictures online, I feel both the 8 and the Ultra share the same back sensor (i.e. they're both larger, have more depth and so will dig into my wrist too)? Can someone confirm?

For now I'm happy with my watch 5 as it's very comfortable to wear day and night.

I don't know if it's to tight. But I'm having the same problem. I know that I'm allergic to nickel and had the exact same issue when I first purchased a FitBit (they were later sued for it). I was wondering if maybe the Ultra has nickel in the back and it's flaring up my allergy? I can't find a definitive answer on wether or not it does. I've owned every series of Apple Watch and this is the first one I've had a reaction to. Do you know if you have a Nickel allergy?

In my case it isn't an allergy / flareup / skin irritation. It's quite literally a sore wrist (i.e. the bone under the sensor hurts). I've also made sure it isn't too tight, however given it's slightly heavier weight and the bumpier sensor below, I feel it just keeps digging into the wrist as I rest / walk-around / jog / sleep etc.

Overall all I know is that in just 2 days of wearing it constantly, my wrist hurt and I could not bear it any longer. This, in addition to the abrasion I feel when using the crown, and then sharp edges my fingers roll over when swiping on the screen from the edges (previous generation of apple watches have developed muscle memory where I would swipe from the edge when revealing notifications / settings etc).

I've been back on my Apple Watch 5 for a day (and night) and it feel so much more comfortable. I thought I'd exchange this with an Apple Watch 8 but it looks like it may also have a bumpier sensor that may result in at least doing the same to my wrist.

I was using the runners sports band. I don't have small wrists so maybe it was a goldilocks combo of various things in play. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I gave up as it was clearly not working out for me. S5 is doing well for me now. I tried S8 in the shops last night and I have a feeling maybe it's the slightly heavier weight of the watch and wearing it non stop wasn't cutting it for me.
