Pixelated screen using Apple CarPlay

I can still confirm after weeks of driving that SW update 1896 (or higher) definitely solves this problem!

For months my dealer also mentioned that there was no SW update listed for my car but instead I threw in other infotainment issues like "reboots frequently" and "faults" until the dealer finally wanted to update to 1896. Very frustrating but very happy that this issue is finally resolved and hope all of you reading this topic can benefit from this info.

Today I had a visit to SEAT authorised service, and they told me that pixelation is the common issue across VW group, and that is there when dark background theme is selected, there is a break in data transfer.

He told me that the solution is to remove screen timeout, to be never, meaning screen should be all the time on, then problem will not occur.

I did not tried that but if true, can help others. In the meantime my infotainment was updated, and lets see if it will work with the update....

I tried with updated infotainment version, and in 20 minutes I did not have the issue (usually was there in the first 5-10 mins).

Once I drive more, I will see if issue was resolved with the update (New Ateca with 0836 version).

My VW had a software update this week. Over the air so I didn’t have to take it to the dealer , and obviously whatever the fault was with wireless Apple play has now been rectified as Google Maps and Waze are both now 100%.

1 jun 2023: pixelated screen-problem solved. My car : Octavia Combi iV (2021) / iPhone 13pro ios16.5 . Software update (nr 1896) by Skoda-dealer Tilburg- Bastiaansen (NL) solved the problem!! Waze en Google Maps working perfect with Apple CarPlay.

This fixed it for me. Waze works fine now without this pixilation issue.

For apple car play and Waze. I noticed an issue where the screen would get all fuzzy randomly.

Go to apple iPhone settings, general, CarPlay, find the car, customize, REMOVE google maps from that list

It seems that disabling Google Maps from CarPlay apps surprisingly fixes the problem with Waze. Tested for 30 mins — no pixelated screen (Tiguan 2022, MIB3) while using Waze, but further testing is probably required.

Since a couple of weeks ago, Google maps works fine on my Skoda Octavia. When I last checked, Waze was still messed up.

I'm honestly not sure what fixed it. There were quite a few updates to all pieces of this weird puzzle.

So everything was working just great. Google maps and Waze 100% and no pixilation.

Suddenly yesterday Google Maps became all pixelated again !!!!!!!

I’d done nothing to either my phone or car !

Just fed up now as it’s been working fine for a couple of months

16-08-2023: I can confirm that updating the software to the latest version by the dealership solves the issue on the Octavia HB (2021) / iPhone 11 Pro iOS 16.6. Updated from v1803 to 1941. I drove for about 60 mins without having to "refresh" the screen once, whereas before I had to "refresh" it around every 5-10 mins. Doesn't really matter which app is on-screen, but I only use: Waze, Spotify and Flitsmeister. Glad the issue is solved and thanks for reporting it here!

I have similar issue in my Malaysian VW Tiguan circa 2021. Approached VW and no resolution to date. Seems that the problem is phone + software related.

no issues running Android on the same car so far.

It's a car software related issue with (wireless) Apple Carplay. I don't know the details, but something with disconnecting the wireless connection. For me and others the problem is solved by updating the car software at the dealership. Before the update I had the issue like every 10 minutes, with different iPhones / iOS verions. After the update, the problem is most certainly solved. I have driven over 1700km since the update without any issue.

Yeah!! Finally got mine resolved. It was an update in the head unit firmware. I guess the squeaky wheel gets the most attention.

I have a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze , iPhone 13 , 17.4 iOS , and nothing has resolved the pixelation on the maps, it even pixelates the Apple Maps now and within minutes at times , happens in google maps and Waze . Apple has run diagnostics and said it's not on their end, I've tried updating cars firmware but nothing availed, tried restarting phone/ car setting etc but nothing. Only option left is to pay 3rd party infotainment system repair company to check it out and fix it...
