Pixelated screen using Apple CarPlay

This is not a new topic here, as far as I see, I think it is the right thing to open this discussion for those of you having new generation cars from the VW group:

The Apple CarPlay problems are not only on Honda models. My Skoda Octavia 4 (VW MIB3 Infotainment System) has the same problem.

When using navigation apps (Waze, Apple Maps, Google Maps) on both my iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 7, after a while, the navigation part of the screen is getting blurry.

Both iPhones have the newest updates, the car also. Restarting the iPhones or the car infotainment system doesn’t help.

You can refresh the blurred screen by changing shortly to a car menu and then back to Apple CarPlay. This holds for a while (5-10 Minutes) and then you go again.

I can still confirm after weeks of driving that SW update 1896 (or higher) definitely solves this problem!

For months my dealer also mentioned that there was no SW update listed for my car but instead I threw in other infotainment issues like "reboots frequently" and "faults" until the dealer finally wanted to update to 1896. Very frustrating but very happy that this issue is finally resolved and hope all of you reading this topic can benefit from this info.

Same here. iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 16.1.1 using Google Maps in my VW California T6.1. Very annoying!

There was a firmware update for my Discover Media Pro a few days ago, but that didn’t fix the issue. Like the last post here I also just update Google Maps to the latest version - let’s see tomorrow (but I doubt it). Have started to use Apple Maps - actually not too bad, but Google Maps still rules.

I keep saying it …. this could be a vw problem not apple.

Most (though not all) on this discussion are vw /vag owners.

I have no such problems with my bmw CarPlay,

I have automatic updates switched off on both my phone and my wife’s.

I’m running the same IOS Software for the last 12 months (15. Something) … and the only update I’ve had was via VW through the sms in the van.

My problem is with my new Honda CRV. I agree that I think it is car specific, but (per my dealership) it has to do with Apple not providing compatible updates for different cars. The advancements in technology creates more room for error if those updates are not aligned to sync up with every other piece of technology that it is supposed to. Could not imagine that I would be dealing with such a basic problem with a brand new phone and brand new car.

In my opinion, both are possible: Apple releasing a bug or car manufacturers not getting ready for Apple's evolution. While it is almost certain that Apple triggered these issues by their release, it's not necessarily their mistake or bug. Although someone here already contacted them and it seems like they have acknowledged the issue.

Definitely, the next move really belongs to Apple. They should really do their best to quickly classify the problem. Because if it is on the manufacturers side, then the manufacturers will take ages before they act without Apple's prompt. I have a feeling that car manufacturers would like to maintain their software just like they maintain their hardware :D

I have the same problem and it is exactly like you have described. After a few minutes after the navigation has started, no matter which navigation app is running, the screen refresh rate goes down making imposible to follow the navigation instructions. The lag brokes the navigation. This is happening to me since iOS 16 and the photo that I am posting is from iOS 16.2 so the bug it is not fixed.

Hope Apple can fix this because it is very frustrating.

Tried the usb solution as I noticed it was on Wi-Fi before finding this thread..for me it worked for less than a minute..the 5g bar was on 3 bars also so it’s not a streaming issue, this is so frustrating,I was a golf mk8 which Vw are having back soon as they can’t fix the very dangerous problem it has of thinking I’m driving on the wrong side of road..ie lane assist pulls me to the wrong side only to perform an emergency stop and it thinks I’m undertaking on motorways etc..again applying the brakes…CarPlay was the only thing working right and now this🙄
