iOS 15.7 update causes audio selection on incoming calls to change from speaker to audio.

Updated to iOS 15.7 on iPhone 11. Now the answer call button displays audio instead of speaker. How do I change this back?

Hello,

It sounds like your iPhone and your wife's iPhone may be signed in with the same Apple ID. Is that right? Does this happen when the second iPhone is not nearby? We ask since this will may continue to be an option as long as there are other devices nearby that meet the criteria below which is from Make and receive calls on your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

"Set up iPhone Cellular Calls

You can use iPhone Cellular Calls with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that meets the Continuity system requirements. It works when your devices are near each other and set up as follows:

  • Each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device is signed in to FaceTime with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device has Wi-Fi turned on.
  • Each device is connected to the same network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices, then turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices.
  • On your iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn on Calls from iPhone.
  • On your Mac, open the FaceTime app, then choose FaceTime > Preferences. Click Settings, then select Calls From iPhone."

If you are using the same Apple ID, it would be recommended that each family member has their own Apple ID. You could set up Family Sharing so that you can share purchased content. Check out Set up Family Sharing on iPhone - Apple Support for details.

All the best.

Greetings,

That's a great question! If you're seeing Audio instead of speakerphone, that's an indication that other devices such as Bluetooth headset are connected to your device. To see Speakerphone, tap Audio and the option will appear there.

If you would like to provide feedback about what appears, you can do so via the Product Feedback website. Apple appreciates all feedback regarding their products, services, and features. Leaving that feedback via the websites ensure the appropriate individuals receive and review it.

Take care!

Hi Todd0213, thanks for replying. I turned Bluetooth off and tried, but I still see 3 choices when I answer a call: iphone1, Speaker, and iphone2 (my wife’s iphone). I do not have any headset set up for my phone. Here is what I have for Bluetooth devices: AJ’s iPad (granddaughter’s iPad), AR SPEAKER ( portable outdoor speaker), SYNC (Ford Fusion mobile phone connection), and my Mac’s keyboard (that can handle 2 devices-my Mac and my iPhone). I never had this problem with my phone for 2 years. I update my iOS when they come out and never had this issue until the latest update to iOS 15.7, which I am running now.

I deleted all Bluetooth devices except SYNC. Still no success. When I answer the phone from the blank screen, I still see Audio and when I press it, I still see iphone1, Speaker, iphone2. I thought when I chose Speaker, it would stick as the preferred choice when I answered the phone, but no luck. To me, this is very irritating, is there anything else that can be done?

I have shut the phone down multiple times and powered back up hoping that whatever 15.7 did would be corrected! Do you or anyone else in the Community have any other suggestions before I have to go to an Apple store to get assistance?

Thanks again!

Hi Faith, yes I have all the devices sharing the same Apple ID. And, I’ve been set up this way since we purchased Apple iPhones in 2014!!!! And, we’ve had “zero” issues with things like this! We have 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, and a Mac working without issues since the beginning, not to mention my granddaughter’s iPad! My question is, “Why did just My iPhone start having this issue when I updated it to iOS 15.7 a few days ago? This just sounds so strange to me! To go through the effort of setting up four devices with individual Apple IDs and trying to keep them all straight would be a nightmare for me, let alone setting up Family sharing. All of this when we’ve been working just fine for so many years! Argh!

When we first purchased the iPhones, it sure appeared that Apple had no problem with Apple ID sharing among several devices, so I set everything up that way so I didn’t have remember several Apple IDs. But, I guess Apple never really tested that philosophy and now I am paying the price. Oh well! I will just have to live with my device working the way it used to, but I am now terrified to update my wife’s iPhone to 15.7, or any newer iOS updates! I’m an army of one trying to keep up with maintaining 5 Apple devices!

Thanks for your help, Faith.
