What is APFS user agent and what would make it need attention?

I'm getting a notification that the APFS user agent needs attention. I'm also getting this message -- Volume Hash Mismatch Hash mismatch detected on volume disk3s1. macOS should be reinstalled on this volume.

They seem to be related. I see other discussions about the Hash Mismatch, which others not being able to reinstall the system as the notification recommends. Same here.

My MacBook Air has become unstable, livestream movies freeze and Skype crashes. This instability has never happened before. Is it Monterey 12.6?

You should attempt to reinstall the OS in Recovery. That should not require you to erase the drive or lose your data, but you should have a backup before attempting.

A lot of people who tried to reinstall the OS per recommendation of error message found that it didn't work. It quits after the first hour. If you search, you'll find all the comments about this.
