Apple Mail - This message has no content

On my Macbook Air, EVERY message from 3:25am to 6am today, is EMPTY!

On my iPhone 14, EVERY message has CONTENT!

I can resend the messages to myself FROM my iPhone, and magically the content is available on my MacBook.

This problem comes, this problem goes. I've tried the various tips & tricks suggested in other threads.

It is shameful that Apple will not fix this. I've had this issue going on for the last few years but over the last six months it has gotten unbearable! The last five emails I received today have no content and I'm getting about five emails a day this happens with. (Some days it's on my laptop and other days it's on my phone and there's absolutely no consistency.) I saw some dumb, unacceptable work around where you make another mailbox and drag the email into that box and then bring it back to the inbox originated from and then the message content appears. Well 2/10 times it does but then the rest of the times even that doesn't work. I'm literally ready to ditch Apple over this and I'm a graphic designer who's been on a Mac for 25 years spending tons of money on different Mac pros and laptops and devices of the Wazoo. Users should not be experiencing this. It's extremely disruptive to workflows in Apple needs to fix this and I agree we need to keep posting this thread until we annoy the crap out of them and they actually do something about it. Stop trying to track people and censor people and fix basic email problems!

I was able to restore the content of an email with the same error message by doing the following:

  1. Drag the message from its header (or from the message list) to the desktop (the cursor turns into a hand when hovering over the email header)
  2. Double click the new message icon on the desktop to open it in a new window with the content visible
  3. To restore the content of the inbox copy of the message, drag the email header to the inbox folder
  4. The email in the inbox should now be restored with its content

I only had a single email that I could do this with, but I suspect it would also work by dragging multiple emails from the message list to the desktop. I suppose there's also a chance that we encountered the same error due to different issues. In any case, I hope this helps!

Currently, all email on my MacBook Air and iPhone have content, BUT when it occurs again....

I will try your suggestion, and THEN I will create another thread, which Apple will respond to here in the Support Channel. Is Apple ALSO trying to identify the ROOT CAUSE and develop SOLUTIONS?

I'm guessing NO. I can find this thread throughout the ages, new ones get created all the time.

Why does Apple NOT CARE?

Hello MarkInsChat,

Since this an email issue rather than a Messages issue, we would suggest that if you toggle the mail account off, and back on, and see if all the emails come back. Follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner.
  2. Click on System Preferences > Internet Accounts > [affected mail account ].
  3. Uncheck Mail, then check it back.

This should reset the sync between the computer and the server.

Have a good day.

Hello MarkInsChat,

Having your messages appear on all your devices is important. Let's take a closer look into this issue. Have you followed the actions provided here: Access your messages on all your Apple devices - Apple Support under section: Turn on Messages in iCloud? The following is noted in this article:

"To make sure you’re seeing the latest messages in iCloud on your Mac, choose Messages > Preferences, click iMessage, then click Sync Now in the Settings pane."

Are you able to successfully select "Sync Now" to see if that helps?

Best regards
