Are google photos and photos on your phone linked? I want to delete photos in google photos because it shows me which are duplicates but I want to make sure they are synced and also deleted in Apple.

Hey Hsteinb.

While these two accounts are not linked by default, you may be able to Sync your favorite photos with Apple Photos using the information found in this Google Photos Help page.

" How it works

  • Your favorite (heart) photos in Apple Photos become favorites in Google Photos.
  • Your favorite (star) photos in Google Photos become favorites in Apple Photos.
  • If you unfavorite photos in Google Photos, it unfavorites photos in Apple Photos, and vice versa.

Tip: You must use an iOS device for this feature.

Turn sync on or off

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Google Photos Photos.
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo.
  3. Tap Photos Settings Settings.
  4. Tap Apple Photos.
  5. Tap Sync favorites On.
  6. Tap Turn on sync or Turn off sync.

Tips:

  • If you already use Google Photos, you might see a prompt in the Google Photos app. Tap your Favorites folder to turn on sync and see your favorites in Apple Photos.
  • If you turn off Sync favorites, it takes effect for future photos. Photos that are already favorites stay favorites."

Keep in mind this is only for favorited or starred items. To get other items in Google Photos over to the Photos app on your Mac, they'd need to be manually imported, so you may have different content in both of those places.

Take care.
