Apple TV aspect ratio

I recently (Sept 2022) did a software update on my 2018 Apple TV.

Since then the aspect ratio has been off - almost square instead of rectangular...so distorted shapes.

I have been to settings > audio, video but can't get it back to original aspect. How can I do this?

does apple tv support ultrawide monitor (3440 x 1440) I have an 34 inch LG ultra wide monitor. It works well with direct connection to MacBook Pro via HDMI. When connected via Apple TV the resolution is different and Images are distorted. I tried selecting 3440 x 1440 in display settings in Apple but it’s not working. Tried updating and restarting Apple TV but the wide angle resolution is not getting applied in Apple TV. Can’t locate the wide angle resolution in airplay display settings. Is there a fix?

Apple tv video picture distortion I recently installed the Apple tv app on my Sony 4k Smart tv and bought a subscription and now am experiencing video distortion on HD app setting. If I change the app setting to 'SD' then I get watchable pictures with occasional distortion around the edges of the pictures. Any ideas? Can I solve the problem without having to buy a tv box, which I’m presuming wouldn’t have the same problem. Thanks in advance.

Apple TV sends out an HDMI video signal for 16:9 screens. If your screen is different from 16:9, then it is up to the screen’s settings to keep the image in the correct aspect ratio, either by extra black bars or by zooming.

Please describe your equipment with model numbers.

Does is matter what content you stream? (E.g. only show X from content provider Y.)
