CarPlay Black Screen with ios 16 update

Hi - since upgrading an iphone 12 max to ios 16 I have been getting a black screen when plugging in and selecting carplay. The carplay icon appears on the infotainment unit but when it is selected it goes black and there's nothing thru the system. I downgraded to ios15 again and it worked for a while but then randomly got the black screen again - upgraded to 16.0.2 and same.

I've deleted all the profiles in carplay, checked siri, checked usb connection is active but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

Since I updated my phone, I discovered that car play does NOT connect when I’m connected to a VPN server. this worked for me and I think it should work for more people:

1.) unplug my phone from the car

2.) disconnect VPN

3.) connect phone to car (i.e. USB/C-cable)

4.) VOILA

2020 Kia here and I’m currently having this issue. I know it’s my phone though because my fiancé’s phone works fine but mine? Random blackout and sometimes the media will go silent. Hopefully the latest update of 16.4 kicks it into gear….

I literally just bought a new iPhone Pro Max 14 and CarPlay was working fine. All of the sudden it just started making my car screen go black and I have to pull over and restart my car or reset my phone. I had to by a second phone which is an Android phone because of the poor reliability of the iPhone CarPlay. This is not good for my work as I need navigation and hands free texting. Also borderline dangerous. Losing faith!!!

I upgrade to 16.1.1 OS it worked for a few days, now black screen. 2022 Jeep Compass. Ugh!

Using iPhone 12 Pro Max on Skoda Enyaq and black screening has just started randomly over the last couple of days. I’m on 16.2 so at a loss 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have the same problem, before works fine until update 16 . Now with new update 16.3 don’t work to. it just happens with CarPlay function.

I am now having this issue out of nowhere as of 3/17/23, have done everything here and my phone is up to date with IOS 16.3.1… Any other ideas?

Did the update on my iPhone 13 and now when I access car-play and select maps, it plays for a couple seconds and then the screen on my car goes black.
