CarPlay Black Screen with ios 16 update

Hi - since upgrading an iphone 12 max to ios 16 I have been getting a black screen when plugging in and selecting carplay. The carplay icon appears on the infotainment unit but when it is selected it goes black and there's nothing thru the system. I downgraded to ios15 again and it worked for a while but then randomly got the black screen again - upgraded to 16.0.2 and same.


I've deleted all the profiles in carplay, checked siri, checked usb connection is active but nothing seems to work.


Any ideas?

Since I updated my phone, I discovered that car play does NOT connect when I’m connected to a VPN server. this worked for me and I think it should work for more people:




1.) unplug my phone from the car

2.) disconnect VPN

3.) connect phone to car (i.e. USB/C-cable)

4.) VOILA

I literally just bought a new iPhone Pro Max 14 and CarPlay was working fine. All of the sudden it just started making my car screen go black and I have to pull over and restart my car or reset my phone. I had to by a second phone which is an Android phone because of the poor reliability of the iPhone CarPlay. This is not good for my work as I need navigation and hands free texting. Also borderline dangerous. Losing faith!!!
