Enter the password of the email "XXX" freezes

Hi everyone,

I am working in a university using Microsoft exchange as mail server.

Microsoft exchange requires periodically to verify the university email account (Image 1). Most of the times, I am verifying the email account, and then everything goes back to normal. Of note we also using the Microsoft Authenticator app on the iPhone.

My problem is that every 5-6 months my university email account, when it prompts the window to enter my password, on the step of entering the password it freezes (Image 2). That is, I am entering the correct password, and then there is an indefinite grey screen in the window, staying there for ever (Image 3).

I have contacted the ICT, when it first came up the problem 5-6 months ago, they did not quite know what to do except to say, delete and add again your account (which it works), or use Microsoft Outlook (:-), forget it guys). I do not want to keep deleting my email account every 5 months. Of note that iPhone and iPad are working fine with all email accounts that I have, business and personal.

I tried to delete Exchange entries on the keychain access, but without luck.

I am using only Mac Mail.

Any help on how to solve it would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Agapoulas,

You mentioned only getting this prompt every 5 months, so the next time you're asked to authenticate, try testing the issue in safe mode. This will start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening, which could help narrow down the cause of the issue. This article will walk you through the steps: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Apple silicon

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

Best regards.
