I have friends I only message with -- not email -- for various reasons. Is there any way to designate those friends as VIPs? iPhone SE.

You can create lists in the Contacts app in iOS 16. Open Contacts, tap "Lists" in the top left corner. Then, tap "Add Lists" in the upper right.

Note that whether or not this feature is available depends on what type of account you're syncing your contacts to.
