Apple TV remote stopped controlling Yamaha Soundbar

Similar to others I have seen I have had my Apple TV remote suddenly stop working for my Yamaha soundbar. The soundbar is attached to TV via optical cable. It had worked for a year and then stopped a couple of months ago.

i conducted the learn remote a couple of months ago and had frustration of not getting sound up and down with the mute button to all work. After duplicating the learn remote I finally got up and down and mute all work. The only problem was the soundbar no longer turned off when turning off tv.

Today again lost ability to control sound. Attempted to learn remote four times and can not get the learned remote to take. When learning remote, the status bar goes on all three commands and looks like the commands take but the Apple TV remote still will not control the soundbar. There is no HDMI-CEC function on the soundbar. The model is ATS-1060
