With new update my lighting/ digital AV connection no longer has sound when using HULU

For difficulties with your adapter, you'll want to take the steps below:

1. Disconnect and reconnect your adapter from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and from your TV, monitor, or projector.

2. Make sure that your VGA or HDMI cable works, since the issue could be with the cable.

3. Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters. Accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signals to different video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) aren't compatible.

If that still persists, does this occur with any apps besides Hulu?

Are you able to test your adapter with any other devices?

Thanks for replying, wileam1, and that additional info, it really helps! Since this setup works with Netflix, and this setup doesn't work with the Hulu app on your wife's iPhone, this could isolate this to the Hulu app so please contact their support for help with their app:

We understand how it seems like it's an Apple issue, but if other apps are working, then it's not an Apple issue. Hulu may have changed a setting that does not allow streaming with that connector anymore.

If no sound is working with anything using that adapter, then please test with another adapter. Otherwise, you will need to work with Hulu to isolate and resolve this behavior from here.

This problem has been widely reported. It is not limited to Hulu. It also affects Prime, Paramount+, Peacock, and Pluto (on demand content only for Pluto). AppleTV+, PBS, Disney+, and Netflix seem unaffected. All problems began after update from ios 15.7 to 16. It may be related to HDCP copy protection or a glitch in the HDMI software which is transferred to the phone from the adapter when first plugged in (the massage pops up when iOS 16 is first used with the adaptor). Apple needs to fix this.
