Cannot delete ghost files

For some reason, I have noticed a lot of ghost files are on my Mac, which seem to arise after I move the real file to another folder or disk. This has happened often after I have carried out a search in the Finder and then move the resulting list of files. I cannot remember if these ghost files have been created in other situations but I suspect they have. These files are taking up substantial space and I am keen to get rid of them - there are hundreds of them and they are all .mp4 video files. I followed a procedure in another question on the same subject - Deleting ghost files - Apple Community - but when I tried to move the file to the Terminal window, the file just bounces back.

If you can help, please let me know asap.

The files I have looked at with the Get Info command all have current/recent dates (not 1984 or older).

I'd also like to know what is the cause of this anomaly.

By the way, and although things may have changed, as P. Phillips noted, that is not the reason why you arr not being able to drag to Terminal. That sort of procedure works just fine as always, to drag a file and have Terminal write down its full path.

FYI, it may not work if the Terminal app has not been given permission in the "Security & Privacy" System Preferences to access certain folders.

Good point.

I always have Terminal with Full Disk Access, and so this did not occur to me. Thanks.

Are you sure they are “ghost” files? Please select one and press Command-I, then post a screenshot.

That sort of procedure works just fine as always, to drag a file and have Terminal write down its full path. Also, there was a reason why it was advised in that context (as files had wrong timestamps) and it is not at all clear that the context here is similar to the one in that old thread.

So do I and I keep forgetting about it as well, although I have been involved in a couple other recent threads where another contributor remembered to mention it which is the only reason I thought of it when reading your post. I'm always grateful when another contributor notices any oversights or mistakes.

What explanations and what solutions? I see none.

I also attached a screenshot of the file info as requested but no response to that has been given so far.

So how have I been helped?

Pointed into an Alternative Direction is not useful. OK
