Why do my photos not download to my pc

My photos download from my iPhone 12 to the Apple iCloud and then my wife receives them on her iPhone 12 just fine.

However, I cannot get the photos to download from the iCloud to my Windows 11 PC. All updates have been done.

I have the current iCloud for windows installed on my PC and am signed in with my Apple ID. I am using iOS 15.7.

I am signed into iCloud on my iPhone with my Apple ID.

If I go to my PC and open iCloud to my iCloud photos I can click on a photo and then click download and the photo will download to the appropriate folder on my PC.

Why is this download not done automatically for new photos, screenshots and videos?

Windows, 10

Hello SehlMan,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. You mentioned being on iOS 15.7. The latest version of the iOS software is iOS 16.0.3. Let's ensure that your iPhone 12 is updated to the latest version. This can help provide software improvements and may help with iCloud Photos. If needed, here's how to update:

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly
1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15
and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your
passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

These steps are outlined here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Then, let's ensure that iCloud Photos is turned on for your PC. Here are the steps:

Turn on iCloud Photos
Make sure that you set up iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch or Mac, that you turned on iCloud Photos, and that you're signed in with your Apple ID.

1. Download iCloud for Windows.
2. Open iCloud for Windows. Make sure you're signed in with your Apple ID.
3. Next to Photos, click Options.
4. Select iCloud Photos.

5. Click Done, then click Apply.
6. Turn on iCloud Photos on all of your Apple devices.

These steps may help you to receive updated photos on your PC and are outlined here: Set up and use iCloud Photos on your Windows PC - Apple Support

We look forward to hearing back from you with an update.

Kind regards.

I have not updated to iOS 16.0.3 because of all the problems I’ve read that there are with it.

I have the most current iCloud for Windows on my PC.

I have iCloud on my iPhone and have it turned on.

I am using the same Apple ID login on all of my devices.

I have the current iTunes and have them synced with my iPhone.

I have all boxes checked in my iCloud settings under Photo Options.

I also had Transfer to Mac or PC set to Automatic.

I turned off all devices and turned them all back on.

I have made sure in my iPhone settings to turn iCloud Photos to on, Shared Albums to on, Hidden Albums to on.

None of this worked

Before reading your reply to my post,

I changed, in iPhone iCloud settings, from Optimize iPhone Storage to Download and Keep Originals. I don’t know if this is what helped or not but ALL of my 2589 photos suddenly started downloading to my PC. I can only guess this setting is what did the trick. After the photos were all downloaded I deleted them. I have tried several times throughout today to do screenshots and pictures and it appears that the download from my iCloud to my PC is now working.
