How do I hide old mailboxes from old company? I do not want to delete them.

Apple Mail: Sunsetting email accounts while retaining email messages? I'd like to close and remove email accounts from one of my devices, in this case my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019). This could be any Mac desktop device question as well, since the question is really about Apple Mail app. I am cleaning up some things and want to eliminate some old email accounts but I want to retain the former messages associated with those accounts. I thought that archiving was for this purpose but I have never used it before and it appears that upon reading about the archiving feature, it not about that at all. I have a number of research colleagues, for many years, they have shared some fantastic material and I'd like to keep it for reference via search. Does anyone have any suggestions? With an Apple product or third party? One caveat: whatever the method, the content must remain local – no cloud solutions. This is due to the sensitivity of the material. Much thanks in advance for any solutions.

Smart Mailboxes re-appear after deletion I have some old Smart Mailbox folders and Smart Mailboxes. When I delete them it takes a while and they are back. I cannot seem to delete them. You can move them to the Archive folder. It won’t really be hidden but at least they won’t show up on the main screen. Or you may find the information in the link below helpful:

Mailbox folders or accounts can be deleted from the device, but cannot be “hidden” in the native Mail App.
