Excessive map data usage starting with iOS 16
I noticed that my cell data was dramatically increasing, so I went back and reviewed my data usage. It looks like every time I use my phone to navigate, the Maps app is using somewhere around 300-400 megs of data. In the past 5 weeks since I upgraded to iOS 16, it has burned through over 13 gigs of data. I finally had to disable cellular when traveling so I wouldn't go over my data cap. The details:
- iPhone 11 Pro running iOS 16
- Using CarPlay to navigate with the traffic details turned on, but I'm not using turn-by-turn; I'm only using it for traffic alerts
- My commute is about 35 miles/60 minutes long, but it uses the same amount of data if I turn on navigation for a short trip (<5 miles)
Looking at my cell phone company records, I've never used more than 100 megs of data in a single sitting prior to the release of iOS 16. (I'm on WiFi a LOT, so I don't use a ton of cell data.) I have restarted my phone multiple times, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Maps app. Still no luck. Is anyone else experiencing this?
