Ventura is not saving printing presets (fully)

Are you using a vendor driver or AirPrint? Can you provide more information about your printer?

Yes, it worked properly until upgrading to Ventura. I have no apps of the type listed installed.

I have exactly the same issues here. I wrote about it in an item here before. Talked to an apple senior advisor and would pass it through. Now that I read that more people struggle with saving printer settings I am glad that I’m not the only one…

Im having the same problem with an Epson.

Updated to 13.1, New Mac studio- Migrated from 2017 5k iMac that worked fine.

Now when I chose a preset, immdiate crash no matter what app I am printing from.

So. all existing presets for all my printers crash the apps.

So, after setting up to print , adjusting settings for paper , media color space etc. Printing goes off fine.

I came back to print a gain using same preset but it did not save my settings. The preset is now back to the defaults.

I already wrote about having the same problems with saving presets. Saving presets as I did before for choosing between my 3 trays is still not working. What is difficult to me is to understand the difference bestween the two options for saving: (difficult for me to translate from Dutch to English). I wrote about it on the help pages at Apple's but still, I don't the difference between the 2 possibilies of saving. Can anyone help me with that? And I retarted in safe mode and then back no normal but saving the presets still does not work...

This issue has just started for me since I updated to Ventura. Somewhat comforting to see that I'm not the only one - I even wiped my Mac and updated the printer firmware assuming Apple couldn't be so negligent as to make such a blatant and elemental mistake.

Looks as all brands have to issue new software and drivers for all printers. Apple could have informed and warned them for upcoming problems with Ventura. Looks as Apple support is not aware of problems at all…

I've also considered using one of my Windows machines to run print jobs, but I wasn't able to see any type of printer presets like macOS has. If there is such a thing, I'd like to know about it, as it wastes a lot of my time having to setup each print job by hand, and then sometimes making a mistake and ruining a print job. I should bill Apple for my time and costs due to their boneheaded software development.

We use Oki printers and they have saveable presets in Windows, similar to Mac OS (except that they still work). Not sure if that's an Oki software/driver thing. I feel your pain about setting up each job - to add insult to injury, I've run tests and have noticed that sometimes Ventura reverts to default and wrong settings when I have a large queue, even if I didn't make a mistake at input. This is why we now have to babysit the machine and do 1 job at a time...

I mostly use Xerox machines, so I'd need to see if their software supports such a thing. Kind of crappy if it's something that individual vendors have to include with their drivers, versus a system-wide feature.

Agree 100%. It's almost as if a company that sells high-end machines, popular with the design and print industry, should either ensure support when they launch a new OS or quickly fix the issue when it's brought to their attention!

I wouldn't go so far, I still loooove apple on so many other levels. yes but this is a big pain in the neck. it's crazy. I have a few Xerox, Oki's and it's so hard to do the tray settings, and it doesn't hold when u go to other options. it's maddening!!! Apple! fix it!!!! c'mon we sticking with you for a reason!!!!

I agree, have been recommending Apple to my clients and for professional workflows it is unbearable you have to manually set the print settings repeatedly every time you print. The printers are enterprise level HP laser printers and storing the trays permanently in the presets does not work.

Not sure if you also have noticed this, but since updating to Ventura our OKI shrinks all prints slightly the long way when using custom paper sizes. Both issues have been brushed off by both OKI and Apple blaming each other. It is so frustrating.
