Usb C hub not working on MacOS Ventura

Hi guys,

I’ve updated my M1 Macbook Pro to MacOS Ventura 13.0. Ever since, the usb c hub of my Dough Spectrum ES07D03 stopped working (and it still is working on Windows).

I’ve allowed accessories to connect (setting is set at “Always” in System Preferences > Privacy & Security), and the OS asked me if i wanted to allow some USB peripherals to connect to the macbook.

After tweaking a bit here and there yesterday, it finally worked as it should. But this morning, it didn’t. Let me explain my setup quickly:

My Macbook pro is closed on my desktop, with an HDMI cable plugged in to it, going to my 2nd screen.

It has a thunderbolt 3 cable going into the Spectrum, and on the hub I have: a logitech dongle for a wireless headset, an usb-c webcam plugged in in the usb-c port, and usb hub from anker in the last usb A port, which powers mouse, keyboard, and external mic.

I used to just type randomly on my keyboard to wake the whole thing up. This morning, nothing happened. I opened my macbook and told me the following thing:

So i’ve tried unplugging everything and tada: when unplugging / plugging my mic back, everything went up and working.

But everytime my macbook goes into sleep mode, it does the same thing. I have to open the lid, then unplug / wait / plug my usb devices again to make it work correctly.

I'm thinking about downgrading to Monterey where everything was working perfectly, unless you guys know what i can do about it ?

Sharing my own solution that I discovered today. Short Version: Check your Allow accessories to connect option. You can find this in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Scroll down and you'll find it above FireVault. I changed this value to Automatically When Unlocked and it solved everything.

Long Version: I have a USB C display out to a monitor that has USB A ports. Display works without issues after updating to Ventura, but the USB A ports stopped reading devices. In addition to this, I noticed my external HDD wasn't direct connecting via USB C either. After several unplug/replug attempts, I noticed a prompt would pop up but disappear in less than a second. Had to record my screen and playback frame by frame to read it. It was asking me to allow the accessory to connect. I changed the value in the settings described above and solved all USB C issues including the HDD and hub! The strange thing is that the Allow prompt never showed up when I tried using the USB hub. My guess is that this prompt is not showing up for most devices and leaving Ventura users in the dark.

Hi,

I'm not sure if that's relevant, but I have the same issue with a keyboard that disconnects over night. It's connected to thunderbolt/usb-c port.

I've found that the name of my keyboard was reported in /private/var/log/wifi.log log as a kind of wifi device. The log shows exact time when the device is being turned off, but does not say what is the reason. So I thought that maybe it has something to do with the thunderbolt network settings? Right now I've deactivated thunderbolt bridge from network settings and I'm going to check if that helps.

What's funny, the "other services" list in the network settings, where thunderbolt bridge was listed, was full of rp2040 entries. That's the chip name my keyboard is based on, but here they are listed as modems.

Maybe your USB hub is also somehow detected as a network modem or such?

I am having the same issue ever since I updated Ventura. My solution every morning is to try to unplug and replug all of the TS4, some times it is not working, and the best solution is to restart my MBP 16 M1.

I believe if you download the Monterey from Apple's website and create the installer on a USB you can downgrade to that.

For the questions, I am using a CalDigit TS4 docking station with its own power. It is not the dock since I get the same problem with the Anker and an off-brand as well.

I just fixed this issue for my 2021 M1 16" MacBook Pro.

Mac OS Ventura requires you grant access to USB C accessories. I didn't receive a popup prompting me to grant access to my dock, so it didn't work. My steps to fix:

System Settings > Privacy & Security > Allow accessories to connect > Change to "Always"

Choose the security setting you're comfortable with, of course. As soon as I changed this setting, my dock, monitors, external camera, etc came to life.

I don't understand why @apple doesn't fix that with a small update. They released another update for different other things but this was not included. I have tried all of the combinations and nothing worked, I keep restarting my MBP and disconnecting everything with a sequence in order to make it work. Also, Caldigit they suggesting a safe mode to start it but nothing is working. Unbelievable what we are going through.

My USB-C hub is connected to my Mac via a USB-C male-to-female extension cord. The problem for me was that my hub was plugged into my extension cord in the "wrong" orientation. I thought USB-C orientation didn't matter, but apparently, it can. Where the hub connects to the extension cord I flipped the orientation and it magically started working. Orientation only seems to matter at the point my hub connects to my extension cord - it doesn't seem to matter at the Mac/Extension Cord connection. It also doesn't seem to matter when connecting my Mac directly to the hub.

I'm not sure if this is related to Ventura or not, but worth a try if you use an extension cord.

I just updated to Ventura and now my dock isn't being detected. I have a Razer Thunderbolt 4 dock. All of my peripherals work great when plugged directly into my laptop, but don't work via the dock. The cable from the dock still charges though even though my monitors/webcams don't connect through it. Any updates on this?

I wish I had not updated to Ventura - on my laptop for work I did not and my Dell WD19S USB-C docking station still works for charging and keyboard / mouse. On my home MacBook Pro it does not anymore and I am really angry about that, because the laptop just came in yesterday and I paid about 3000€ for this thing.

Sure, I could go through the hassle to create a USB stick and possibly downgrade it again, but I am wondering what I paid that insane amount of money for? Apple, fix this! I know it's not easy, but you should be able to afford proper QA and testing phases for your OS. And here I thought Windows was terrible :/...

Just for the record and in the hope of someone from Apple actually reading this: I have 2 M1 laptops (M1 Max and M1 Pro) standing with one still on Monteray and the other now sadly on Ventura.

The WD19S (Dell Docking Station) works fine for mouse, keyboard and LAN on my M1 Max with Monteray. It also worked with the M1 Pro before I updated to Ventura. Now it does not and tbh I am pretty upset :(, because nothing I found online works, safe mode does not change anything either.

Unplugging and re-plugging the WD19S power cord into the docking station makes it appear alive again, but sadly only for about 5-10 seconds. Then it simply appears as if it wasn't attached at all. As mentioned previously, it all works on 12.x.
