Apple Mail Crashes in Ventura

I installed Ventura this morning and Aplle Mail stays open for approx 2 seconds before closing/crashing. Does the same in Safe Boot.

Any ideas?

Had yet another session with Apple Support on this. He seemed to think that my install of Ventura didnt install properly.

I had already added 1 of my emails to a 2nd User account 'Test' and that was stable. Ive now added all 8 email addressed and is stable. The Plan is to run on Test user until i think its ok, and move across to this new user and remove old user.

Also when on Test user, i noted that some of my apps reappeared which had not appeared on my original User, iStat menus being one. This gave more credence to the problem install of Ventura

At first, I thought the Ventura 13.1 update, Mail.app Version 16.0, fixed the indexing problem with my large mail folder. NOT SO. It just takes a bit longer than before before the app crashes with stack overflow on the indexing thread. Now it's a good thing it takes longer than 2 seconds to crash, it's up to probably 15 seconds.

But it is A VERY BAD THING that Apple papered over, rather than actually fixing the bleepty-bleepty problem. This shows a true lack of attention to detail on Apple's fault, I think I'd rather they not fix the problem at all, than to just increase the the size before a crash. TRULY TERRIBLE SOFTWARE DESIGN, as well as Software QA. Once they figured out the problem, there should at least have been graceful handling for the error situation.

I just wanted to give a brief update on what I have tried to save everyone having the problem time and sanity. Again, mine is crashing the first letter that I type in the search field. IMMEDIATE. I have fully reinstalled Ventura and it is still crashing. Where it is a spotlight/search problem, I rebuilt the spotlight index by dragging the HD into the privacy field and back. Direction are here! It is still crashing. I am not sure if someone from Apple reads this, but this is a significant problem. Very frustrating. I hate Ventura.

That's interesting. It would seem to ring true with the issue I've been having with my MacBook Air / Ventura 13.0.1 / M1 / Apple Mail. When I delete the last message in a mailbox, Mail crashes (or, as my Mac tells me, "Mail quit unexpectedly." It's like when your car stalls on the highway, "Your car stopped unexpectedly." Why yes, it did). Anyway, I've been googling and trying to figure out WTF it could be that is making Mail crash when I delete the last item in a folder, and Ventura having a problem with indexing sounds like it's something along the right path. Thanks for the post. Now, I just wonder what Apple can do about it. I don't want to switch to Outlook or revert to the previous OS version (can't remember what that one was called).

No, actually, yours looks like a different problem. (That's not good!) Here's one of my crash logs (I should have posted this originally...)

(And a bunch more entries like this, 510 of them. That's when the stack overflow is detected, I suspect....)

I am having similar issues and 100% agree that this is unacceptable!! Heads should roll at Apple. The QA tester isn't the person responsible for releasing this OS with such an OBVIOUS bug. It is project managements responsibility. It was someone in project management that made a determination of what should be done with the results reported by QA testers. That is assuming a detailed testing process is being used by Apple any longer. It is a VERY expensive process as Microsoft found out many years ago. That why they started releasing bug ridden software on the public and let the users become a source of free QA testers. Looks like Apple is headed in that same direction. I worked in financial/customer service systems development for a major utility for over 10+ yrs. I developed and ran QA tests as well as worked with programmers during the entire project lifecycle from beginning to end so I am familiar with how this SHOULD work and it should NOT happen this way.

im still the same, i have 2 emails of 11 active, one is iCloud. I need them all. No reasoning why when i switch any others on that Mail instantly crashes.

I deleted and readded then turned on, no change.

Apple support say their remit is to icloud email address only and all other issues are down to the servers which the other email resides on, which isnt very helpful

I have the same problem: when I try to search in Mail it crashes. I have a MacBook Pro with M1 chip. The problem started when I upgraded to Ventura. I've now updated to Ventura 13.0.1 but it's still the same. It's extremely problematic and makes using Mail very difficult. I'm considering ditching Ventura and going back to Monterrey as I can't work with Mail in this state.

We run Ventura 13.0.1 on all our MacBooks and Mac mini (all M1) in our company and privately. Since Ventura, they all crash when searching mail (and multiple other problems), specific mail search that has many results crashes. We initially chose apple because "it just works," but it feels like apple cares less and less; the last few years, we have had nothing but problems, same on all our iPhones updated with IOS 16.1.1. None of them is updating mail or searching correctly. Needless to say that if this continues, we are ditching apple for good and will go back to MS and Google :-(

Just adding to the woes on this topic, my issue is a little different. My mail opens fine. Seems to search fine. However, when I use safari and click share, send email link to this page, then I get a beach ball for 30 to 60 seconds. Sometimes it will clear after this 60 seconds and let me send the email. Other times it just locks up and I have force re-start the mail app. Very frustrating. I haven't found a solution so far. Thanks.

Mine's weird. Also Ventura (13.0.1). When I go into a mail folder, regardless of whether it only has one message in the folder or several, if I delete the last item in the list of messages (or only item in the folder, if that case applies) then Mail crashes. Every time. Tried the system file deletions etc. Very frustrating. I thought I was getting away from this sort of crap by moving to Mac from Windows. Guess not.

My issue is way more basic. When I try to send an email after upgrading to Ventura 13.1, I get spinning ball. The mail app is not responding so I have to force quit. Sometimes, when I restart, it works for a while then happens again. My "workaround" is to answer these mail messaged using my iphone. I've been a mac user since 1984. When will I learn to wait 6 months to upgrade to avoid my life being a misery. I am using 2021 Macbook pro.
