I installed Ventura this morning and Aplle Mail stays open for approx 2 seconds before closing/crashing. Does the same in Safe Boot.
Any ideas?

Had yet another session with Apple Support on this. He seemed to think that my install of Ventura didnt install properly.
I had already added 1 of my emails to a 2nd User account 'Test' and that was stable. Ive now added all 8 email addressed and is stable. The Plan is to run on Test user until i think its ok, and move across to this new user and remove old user.
Also when on Test user, i noted that some of my apps reappeared which had not appeared on my original User, iStat menus being one. This gave more credence to the problem install of Ventura

I understand the failure codes D.EEmery lists but he/she seems to be sure that one of these fixes would not work. im nervous to faff arouhjnd with integral mail system files without knowledge
I've exactly the same issue since update to Ventura. After typing a few characters in the search field, mail crashes...
My mail works fine unless I try and open an email I put in a folder and then it immediately crashes. So annoying.
I did have an Exchange account that I removed via System Settings, and even removed all GMail accounts. Still crashes - seemingly as soon as it tries to fetch the messages from my IMAP provider.
It is annoying. Literally the return of the coloured ball to my M1 MBP :(
I hope this gets fixed soon. It is unbelievable what Apple makes of a simple thing like a mail app....
I have precisely this problem as well. Unfortunately, I have no solution. I hope someone finds one soon, this cripples my use of Mail.

Same problem, crashes as soon as I type in the search box. Ventura 13.0. MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019. Mail Version 16.0 (3731.200.110.1.12)

i created a Test user, added 1 email account to it, does not crash. What does that tell me?
Mail crashes when I type b, g, o or y into the search field.
It is fine to type any other letter first and then one of these four.
Apart from that, mail appears to work fine.
The Ventura 13.1 update, Mail.app Version 16.0, has fixed the 'immediate crash on opening' problem with large mail indexing. That's A Good Thing. I re-imported my old messages. HOWEVER, search in that imported collection is not working. It could be there's just a delay while Mail rebuilds index data.
