Emails can take minutes to load, what can I do to solve this?

My emails (all acounts eg. icloud, gmail, etc.) in the Mail app can take 5 - 10 minutes to load, even emails that are short and only contain text. I have been trying to remove emails to empty the mailbox but I have to save most. Is there something else I can do to fix this issue?

Also, I don't have this problem with my iPhone Mail app, those still load perfectly and quick. Even to the point that when my MacBook Air Mail takes forever, I open my iPhone Mail to read the email, and it often helps my MacBook Air Mail to load quicker.

My details: MacBook Air, macOS Monterey, Memory 16GB

Hi Tauka,

Does this happen on any network your MacBook is connected to?

You can use Safe mode to test and isolate this issue. Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software. Test to see if this occurs in Safe mode as well.

To start in Safe mode:

  1. Restart your Mac by going to the Apple menu (  ) > Restart
  2. Press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up
  3. Release the keys when you see the login window

You may be asked to log in twice. The second login window should have "safe boot" in the upper right corner

Have a good one!

Hi Sparks0829,

Thank you for your quick response.

My Mac still has 75GB available for storage. Is that considered low? I have moved most of my files to an external hard drive but can remove more if needed.

Re the activity monitor, I don't really know how to read these numbers but I have attached them to this response. Do they explain the issue to you?

For the last step 'Quit any app that isn’t compatible with your Mac.', I assume that the Mail app is compatible with Mac as it is the default mail app for Macbooks.

Thank you again. Really appreciate your help!

Best,
