This iPhone is open in another window

Hi there, I have just updated my Macbook Air to Ventura. When I plug my Iphone in and want to sync my music app I receive the message "this iphone is open in another window" even though there is no other window open. I have switched my iphone off/on and restarted my mac. Still the same.

I hope someone has an answer how to fix this.

With Ventura, the syncing and backing up functions have moved from iTunes/Music to the Finder. In a Finder window your phone will show up in the left hand sidebar as a device. Click on it and you'll see the familiar screens to sync and backup your phone.

It would be a lot nicer if Apple didn't keep changing how things are done, and if they are determined to do that, then explain the process in the error message rather than displaying a cryptic message that your iPhone is already open in another window.

The issue I have is that the "This Iphone is open in another window" message comes up when I select my iPhone XS Max in the sidebar of the Music app on M1 iMac Ventura. The iPhone also shows in the Finder sidebar, but the Finder interface does not allow selecting individual files on the iMac to copy to iPhone. Before Ventura, it was possible to drag copy from Finder to the iPhone in the Finder side bar.

The advice about having Apple Music is correct. I uploaded several new CDs from my own collection over the last few days, and they now appear to be on my phone. I guess the downside is being able to update your phone from the Music app. I am not sure of other downsides. It appears to have happened after the Ventura 13.0.1 update.

Go to Macintosh HD and your iPhone is there. You can update and backup there as well as sync. Not sure what the sync is doing but the top menu shows General...Music...TV Shows...Photos...Files...Info

Since I used iCloud, only a few apps show up on the "Files" tab.

Hey gang, hope this is an appropriate thread for my problem.

I'm seeing the same message as you all, but here's where it gets weird: wired synced to my MBP, using the TV app, Try to sync "home movies" (dl'ed MP4s) to my iPhone 14 ProMax. The sync circle completes, but then can't find my movies in TV on the iPhone. Surprise! They end up in Music, of all places. Don't know what's going on; I fashion myself pretty Apple device savvy. I don't do much that'd warrant things to go butt-up. Haven't gotten on the horn with Support yet or taken my Mac in to an Apple Store. Just want things to go back to working like before. All this because of Ventura.......

This may also have to do with the processor in your MAC.. I am in the basic MACBOOK AIR.. and it may be the worse laptop Apple has ever produced....... with data errors.. misfiled transfers and things like : display, screen saver and a variety of wall paper issues........ Support seems unable to stop them and they tend to look for other provider problems rather than be much more internally focused... SO, the issue with synching to IPHONE is also a misery, as the appearance of iPhone in the left panel, simply doesn't exist for iPhone 13 and 14 with my basic machine... Another reason that if I could afford it, this one would be dropped from a 30 story building!!!!!

Part 2 additional info... just read about a community member find the phone under location.. not in my combination of basic MacBook Air and iPhone 13... Some one earlier was posting about syncing movies that wound up in music???? yep.. while we didn't sync movies, when we can sync using the iPhone recognition in Apple Music app, I have to go through all 27 playlists and eyeball 3000 songs because hunderds wind up in the wrong library or play list... and subsequently the "SEARCH" doesn't function very well either... yet another story
