Cannot send group texts to groups with android phones

For the last few weeks I have not been able to send text messages to groups that have at least one phone in the group that is not an iPhone. I could however text to android phones just fine when not in a group chat. It started happening when I had a 12 Pro Max and was on iOS 16.0.2 I also had the VPN issue where you could not connect to CarPlay with the VPN on. Both issues started at the same exact time. I updated my phone to 16.0.3 and the issue persisted. I updated to IOS 16.1 and still could not send texts to groups with android phones but I could connect to CarPlay with my VPN on so that bug did get fixed. I then finally got my 14 Pro Max and I hoped that the new phone would not have the same issue. My 14 Pro Max is updated to 16.1 and I still cannot send texts to groups with at least one android phone in the group. I can send texts to android phones one on one still but if that very same android phone is in a group chat I cannot. This is very frustrating and I am hoping someone can help me out. Oh, I talked to Verizon and they pretty much blew me off and said it must be an Apple issue and Apple didn’t really do or say anything and I pretty much got the feeling they thought it was a Verizon issue.

We are all Apple users, like yourself, (not Apple of itself) so have no access to your info., accounts or details etc.

You might need to check if your cellular plan covers sending those group texts that have not been getting through.

Seems a plan for calls and one-on-one texts may not include cellular data for sending iMessages.


Seems Messages generally sends with wi-fi to Apple users, and has to use cellular with Android phones.

(If Wi-Fi is unavailable, iMessages would all be sent over cellular data. Cellular data rates may apply)


You could check your settings first, to ensure you have allowed Messages to send with both wi-fi and cellular.
