Generic icons appearing in Mail attachments

Since upgrading to macOS Ventura, a number of attachment types such as PDF attachments in Mail are appearing as generic blank icons. How do I resolve this problem?

I would simply wait for point updates to follow the macOS 13.0

or

updates to follow from your default PDF reader or third party for ex Adobe...

Yes, I have the whole MS Office suite installed, but only docx and pptx but not xlsx are affected.


However, I do suspect that the problem is buried in the user account, because when creating a virgin second user account, the problem does not occur. Of course, there was a legacy element, when migrating the user account from my old Mac to the new virgin Ventura that could have caused this -- but no icon problems ever existed on the old MacOS.


This would also explain why different file types may be affected for different people.


It maybe hard to find the root of this problem...
