Free downloads not free

I can’t get free downloads. Apple is now requiring verification of my money. Free is not free anymore.

I do not believe in credit cards so I have never had one. Thus I have no number to give apple!

i cannot set up a PayPal account because it requires a credit card too.

Now, my question is there a solution that will allow me access to free downloads or should I just junk my apple products?

Free is indeed free. But, you generally need to have a payment method on file. You could always set up Apple Cash if you have some aversion to credit cards, or use your debit card.

You can remove payment methods from existing Apple ID accounts in some cases. Apple requires a payment method on file if you are the family organizer for a Family Sharing group, and for accounts set up for children under 13.

In iOS and iPadOS:

Go to Settings > account name > Payment & Shipping.

Tap the Edit button.

Tap the remove (minus in a red circle) button for each method.

Tap Done.

In macOS:

Launch the App Store.

Choose Store > View My Account and then click View Information.

Click Manage Payments.

Click Edit next to a payment method and click Remove. Repeat for each payment method.
