How can I disable this irritating and annoying behaviour of windows snapping against other windows?
I upgraded from OSX and this was never a feature. I hate this...

Yeah, it is so subtle I don't think many people notice. You have to be going so slow that you would only see it if you were actually trying to line up window borders.
Adding to those two replies:
Press and hold an Option key while positioning those windows. That overrides the "snapping" effect as one window nears the other.
As Luis stated, macOS has no window snapping feature. Which leaves third-party apps. Rectangle among the others mentioned.

I never had this snapping behaviour when i was on El Capitan. As soon as I upgraded to Monterey, every single window snaps. It's very jarring, annoying and irritating behaviour...
It’s hardly jarring. Most people aren’t even aware it is happening.
Well it is jarring to me - regardless of what "most people" are aware of, which does not concern me at all.
