Hi marc smith6,
There are multiple options to transfer content from one iPhone to another. Which method you'd want to use will depend on which content you're wanting on the new device. If your family member wants to use a computer to transfer photos only, you'd need to start with importing them. Import photos from a camera or phone using Photos on Mac walks you through the import process.
Import photos from a camera, iPhone, or iPad
- Connect a camera, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.
- Make sure the camera or device is turned on and the camera is set to the correct mode for importing photos.
- Open Photos (if it isn’t already open), then click the device under Devices in the sidebar.
- If you want to delete photos from the camera after importing them, select the “Delete items” checkbox. This option does not appear for all cameras.
- Set where to import the photos.
- Click Import All New Items.
- If a message asks whether you want to delete or keep the photos on your camera after they’re imported, click Delete Items to remove the photos, or click Keep Items to keep them on the camera.
- Photos imports your photos. To cancel importing, click Stop Import.
- When all photos have been imported, disconnect the camera or device from your computer.
After you've verified all photos have been imported, you can sync them to the new iPhone using the steps in Sync photos between your Mac and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch under the "Sync photos to your device" section.
Alternatively, your family member can use iCloud Photos to transfer photos to the new device using Set up and use iCloud Photos. The photos from the old iPhone would sync to the new device via iCloud with this option.
Finally, Transfer data from your previous iOS or iPadOS device to your new iPhone or iPad offers some additional options to transfer content and settings from one iPhone to another.
Cheers!
