iPhone 14 Pro Max app switcher stutter / lag (Widespread!)

I have been dealing with what now seems to be a widespread issue on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. When in the app switcher, there is a horrible stutter/lag while swiping on an app to go back to the home page. This happens randomly but on all apps, both Apple and third party. Restarting the device will ‘fix’ the issue for a couple of hours, before it starts happening again. The longer the phone is running without a restart, the worse it gets and the stutter will happen every single time, other functions will start to be slow / laggy as well.

This is specific to iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max units, reported by many users on different forums and Reddit threads. This DOES NOT happen on my iPhone 13 Pro Max on the same iOS version (16.1) with the same back up and data, which makes it clear that it’s specific to iPhone 14 Pros and possibly a hardware issue!?

I also don’t believe it’s related to iOS 16 as some people noted, otherwise more iPhone models would be affected.

If it’s software related, why is it only affecting iPhone 14 pro units?

Apple support had me reset my device using iTunes to get a new copy of iOS. I also set it up as new without my back up for 3 days (major inconvenience) to make sure it’s not my data. The issue still persisted. Apple replaced my device with a brand new retail box unit, which still has this bug! This has been the most frustrating situation and I can’t keep replacing units. Also, restarting the phone every few hours isn’t a solution. This seems like a RAM management issue and needs to be acknowledged and address by Apple.

If anyone has figured out a solution please help.

Apple, please address this ASAP.

Yeah, it’s so frustrating. Everything you’ve mentioned is happening to me. The lock screen lag is especially annoying. Just cheapens the entire experience.

I’m happy someone else is acknowledging it and it’s not just my device, I’ve seen nothing from any YouTube reviewers.

I’m going to be really disappointed if the lag starts up again tomorrow because we’ll just be hoping for a fix in December with 16.2.

I hear you. Thousands of users have already acknowledged across many different forums and threads that I have found online, including Apple employees at my local Apple Store. Let’s hope it gets address sooner rather than later. By the way, if this was fixed in 16.1.1 it would have been a part of the version notes and known issues that have been fixed. Sadly, It’s not.

I am with you 1000 percent. I’m also experiencing everything you’ve mentioned. Apple definitely needs to fix this issue. I hate I upgraded from my 13Pro Max. These phones are too expensive to have these issues.

I have the exact same issue. Went to Apple Store Dubai mall, they had no idea. Did all what you did. Back, restore etc… no change

Apple needs to find a fix for this. If hardware related then I don’t mind being replaced with a 13 pro max. As I have the 14 pro max.

it's typical after updating to a new version for the phone to run smoothly for up to 3-4 days, the problem will come back. The stutter and lagging is still not fixed in 16.1.2, it’s just as worse as it’s been unfortunately. Apple doesn’t seem to care.

As you all comment it is a very annoying and frustrating problem. iPhone 14 Pro updated to version 16.1.2, after few days the problem persists, it is especially annoying when the lock screen is not responding.

I’m so glad I came across this because this same bug has been driving me insane. Everything you wrote is exactly what I’m experiencing. I too had my phone restored to factory settings and started from new twice and nothing happened. I finally demanded a new phone with the hopes that it was a hardware issue and the bug is still there. Apple, please look into this!

We have all tried this long time ago as a basic step. It doesn’t fix anything in any version, including 16.1.2 or the upcoming 16.2. Please stop thinking that the issue is fixed when you reset / restart your phone. It only temporarily ‘fixes’ the issue for a few hours.

iPhone 14 PM user here, this has to be the worst iPhone I’ve ever purchased. The software is so glitchy and unpolished. This seems like a ram management issue, the longer you go after a software update or a restart, the worse the system behaves.

It’s coming today or tomorrow but don’t keep your hopes up. Many users have confirmed that this issue is still NOT fixed in the RC version of the software which is the same public version coming out this week.

I also have the same issue with my 14 Pro Max. It has been getting worse each day, I usually restart the phone to solve it for a couple of hours but then the issue is there. So annoying. It's 16.1.2 now.

Hello everyone, yeah this happens to me too… brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max and I have this problem too.

I also noticed a very big problem in the post processing when taking pictures, it is too aggressive.

Wasted 1600€ to upgrade the iphone and instead I paid to downgrade… this was not happening in my old i11pro.

Apple needs to fix this situation as soon as possible.

I want to add that I’ve been dealing with this issue since Day 1 and thus far have been offered no solution. Took it into Apple Store, and showed them screen recordings of it happening and they sent it for repairs and they did a restore that seemed to have fixed it but it’s back and seems to get worse by the day.

has anyone been able to get a replacement phone from Apple?

I'm on 16.2 but all the issues are still here. I have this lag problem and when I wake the phone there are stripes all around the screen. This is the worst device I have ever owned with an apple logo on it.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 14 Pro on ios 16.3.

When i take a look on my homescreen and scroll between my Apps i have definitve small stutters.

The Bug defintive don´t fix on ios 16.3

Why doesn't comment an Apple Member this post from us?
