Save your money. The correct answer to this question is NO the new Apple TV 4K, 3rd generation DOES NOT offer “Hi-Res Lossless audio (ALAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz)” as an option. You will find this offered on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but not the new Apple TV introduced in November 2022. The best you can do is CD quality (i.e. Lossless) which is not the same as “Apple Digital Master” Hi-Res Audio. I wasted money buying the new Apple TV 4K after being told in the Apple Store that it DID support Apple’s Hi-Res audio. Very dissatisfied with the way Apple has rolled out this Hi-Res feature.
Thanks for your kind reply, @BitzgiSF!
I already had to purchase a Mini M1 for another task , so... I'll go for it + Audirvana!
As soon as I'll try it with the Anthem... I'll post my results!
Other than the excellent musica quality, the AVM70 is still "a bit ongoing" in terms of its software (years ago a Root integration was promised...), but luckily gives the possibility to "see" what it is receiving and decoding... (and eventually pass to room correction).
All the best

I don’t think anyone in this discussion is making a deliberate effort to cause confusion. If you can’t tell a difference b/w 24/48 and 24/198, seems to me you wouldn’t reap any benefits above the current ATV specification.
Speakers and amp are well up to the task, I suspect; various set-ups including Quad 34/306, MF X-series, Audio Note M-Zero, Pass Labs Aleph 3, Piega Co-ax, Tannoy Autograph Signature, KEF LS50, Mordaunt Short Performance 6. It’s my ears, as I say. Or the earwax.
"To repeat myself - I didn’t say they played HiRes."
But this is a thread about the possibilities to play Apple Music hi-res lossless up to 24/192 - I think. I wish Rose can offer it in the future, like WiiM or Apple on ATV itself. But this is not the situation in Dec. 2022.
Honestly I do not even understand the "financials"... ATV is struggling to grow and this feature wouldn't cost anything in terms of hardware (the HDMI with Atmos supports everything), but only software - probably not even licensing rights.
Maybe Apple will give us a nice hi-def Merry Xmas present at the next update that will include the karaoke features?
Well… yes, I want more: not only the great sound, but also a good (wireless) user interface. So that I can sit back in my chair, browse Apple Music on my iPad - and it plays at 24/196 on the Apple TV over my stereo…
Dreams!
…but if we don’t use Airplay, but directly Apple Music on latest ATV4K with latest 16.2?
Does it allow to output (via hdmi) a dolby atmos track (like for movies)? And - especially - a lossless hi-res track?
Maybe they’ve released some new year presents for us… 🤭
They could even decide to use the Atmos lossless option (True HD) instead of the lossy DD+... But... I feel this would be a partial nonsense, other than for SACD-like multichannel tracks (that I love, by the way, in my large SACD collection). Have you lossless stereo tracks? Exploit them, '****! :)
Already saw that list. It says “Apple Lossless.” Does that include Apple Hi-res Lossless? My 2nd gen Apple TV 4K plays only Apple Lossless, not Hi-res Lossless.
Didn’t ask about Dolby Atmos, which is different from Hi-res Lossless.
I meant above 48 kHz
You’re wrong, ALAC is compressed audio, AIFF is uncompressed. Look it up. Both are supported; Apple Lossless = ALAC.
I know what ALAC is. Apple Music files can be designated simply Lossless, which almost all of them now are, Hi-res Lossless, or neither. This is all I’m talking about.
Can you please share your source? Or do you have a 2022 4k connected to a receiver and you are getting 24bit audio through?
