Will the new Apple TV 4K 3rd generation support hi-res lossless audio?
Apple TV 4K, tvOS 16
Save your money. The correct answer to this question is NO the new Apple TV 4K, 3rd generation DOES NOT offer “Hi-Res Lossless audio (ALAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz)” as an option. You will find this offered on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but not the new Apple TV introduced in November 2022. The best you can do is CD quality (i.e. Lossless) which is not the same as “Apple Digital Master” Hi-Res Audio. I wasted money buying the new Apple TV 4K after being told in the Apple Store that it DID support Apple’s Hi-Res audio. Very dissatisfied with the way Apple has rolled out this Hi-Res feature.
ALAC and FLAC are the same thing? 😂
That question was in jest, they obviously aren’t, even if insisted (very weakly I must note).
High res on Airplay 2? 😂 (and that’s not a question). Anyways, have fun 👋
No. Airplay 2 does not support the highest quality audio format from Apple (24-bit/192kHz). As previously stated.
Sounds good. However, I feel that it does matter when it comes to spreading false information and contributing to confusion due to a lack of fundamental knowledge in a given field.
Good luck!
I haven't seen any of that. There have been some unverified, even dubious claims, sure. That's alright.
YES ALAC and FLAC are both lossless and can both be higher resolution than CD.
Are you referring to Apple’s claims? I was not.
😁👋
But that doesn’t make them “same”, does it 😁
My only correction : The Apple Lossless Encoder (and decoder) were released as open source software under the Apache License version 2.0 on October 27, 2011.
👋
(1) - Yes, according to Apple
(2) - Google it, the consensus appears to be that FLAC is slightly superior
(3) - That’s already answered by Apple in the links provided, No.
👋
“Superior” is subjective and dependent on too many variables - proving is impossible! So is disproving. On that note, uncompressed is superior…cheers.
Adios! No offense intended...
