Mac icloud log in

Nothing happens when I try to sign into my icloud on my macOS Monterey version 12.6.1. My macbook air is older, early 2015 version. I know my ID and password are correct, I have tried turning off and turning on, I have tried redownloading the MacOS Monterey update, I have tried changing my ID but nothing seems to work.

When I type in my ID and password it just goes right back to needing to put in my ID again., without actually logging in. It doesn't give me the option to enter a 2 factor authorisation.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

Thanks Ros

Thank you for your response. I tested my daughters Apple ID on my mac and that worked perfectly, I was able to log in etc just not with mine, yet I was able to log in with my Apple ID on other devices. What I ended up doing was creating a new profile on Mac (so on my start up screen where I would normally have just me and a guest, it now has 2 options for me) when I select the new one I can log in with my Apple ID. So although this has not solved why I can’t log in when I am on the other profile, it does however, enable me to access my account and it is working well.

thanks again

I had a similar problem.

Initial symptomwas a slow finder, which turned out to be icloud drive not working. No solution was found to that. Then Mac app store would not download apps! I could log in ok, see my account details but apps would simply not download. One suggestion was to log out of iCloud and then log in again. This worked after a couple of tries, but then I kept getting told I needed to lo into icloud again.

Nothing I did or was suggested on other posts on various web sites worked.

I had another mac, iphone and ipad all successfully logged into icloud, but my main mac wouldn’t cooperate.

I only resolved the issue by doing a complete MacOS reinstall. That is erasing the startup disk and doing a clean install, after restarting the Mac in recovery mode.

After the reinstall and subsequent updates and copying back all my apps.

All is well.

Of course I then had to set all the permissions required by my apps (tedious to say the least).

So if you are still having problems I suggest you make sure everything is backed up and then do a clean reinstall.

There is some corruption somewhere in your set up that only a clean sweep (reinstall) will clear.

Thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately, the article didn't help. Originally I was logged into iMessages and Facetime on my mac, but for some reason just not on system preferences, but in trying to fix the sign in issue on system preferences I signed out of iMessage and Facetime, and now I can't sign back into those either. Every time I try to sign in, it just goes straight back to the sign in prompt. I don't get an error. If I sign in with a wrong password I get a Verification error, but when I sign in with my correct log in details I get no message at all it just seems to loop back to the Apple ID prompt. Could it have something to do with it being an old mac and the version 12.6.1 I am running? I am not getting a prompt to enter a verification code when I log in and I don't get an alert that I am trying to log in on my iPhone either.

Thanks Ros
