ATV 4K 3rd generation apparently not passing HDR10+

I bought a 3rd generation Apple TV 4K today because I have a recent Samsung TV that supports HDR10+. I also have a 2nd gen ATV 4K that does not support HDR10+. The video setup info for my new ATV shows HDR10+ is enabled and I am using a high quality certified HDMI cable. When I stream content with HDR10+ through the new ATV, my TV reports HDR (not HDR10+). When I stream the same content through a Google TV device, my TV reports HDR10+ and I can see the difference. My source is Bohemian Rhapsody UHD HDR10+, and I've tested using both VLC and PLEX on both streaming devices. I updated tvOS to 16.1 but that did not resolve my problem. Can you recommend a way to demonstrate HDR10+ output from the Apple TV streamer?

Hi,

I have the ATV 4k 2nd generation and was thinking g of getting the new 3rd generation, do you see a better picture or faster browsing.

Also I suggest try this, while you ATV is on and make sure hdmi cec is not controlling your Samsung TV. Power the TV off and power it back on after minute. Then on you Samsj g TV see if the Picture Mode switches to HDR+.

Post your findings. I want to buy one as well but waiting on reviews.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to confirm that my 3rd generation Apple TV does pass HDR10+ (as displayed on Samsung TV) by successfully playing a few movies from Amazon Prime and YouTube. I was very happy with the picture and responsiveness of my 2nd generation Apple TV. I haven't noticed any difference with the 3rd gen so far (other than HDR10+ now works). Perhaps the VLC and PLEX apps on the Apple TV don't support HDR10+ yet.
