iOS - Google Search Window Disappears Behind Safari Address Bar

I saw this thread a couple of weeks ago. I have been suffering the same issue, with Safari and Google search, for a long time now. It is so frustrating and annoying.

Anyway, literally overnight, it has started working fine, as in once I have tapped into the search text box it doesn’t immediately disappear off the top of the screen. It does move to the too of the page, then stops.

I am desperately trying to think of anything at all that I did yesterday on my Apple iPhone 15 Pro to make this happen. Recently I have been experimenting with Accessibility Touch options (as have a tendency to double tap, or to tap something when not intending, due to severe cervical nerve root damage some years ago sending erroneous signals to my fingers).

I am pretty sure, after trying some things out, I switched everything back off again. Even with this, I cannot see how anything I might have inadvertently changed, and not switched back again, could have impacted my Google search issue.

So, all this has made me wonder whether or not things have changed in the Google web page’s server side code, so that it no longer does this in iPhone Safari.

Had anyone else out there, that has been experiencing the same Google search bar problems, also suddenly found that the problem has gone away?

I would love to know what changed to fix this, or at least to understand what’s happening behind it, so that, if it should ever return, we ALL know how to fix it.

• Safari Zoom set at 100%’- never been changed.
• Automatic Software Updates set to Download Only.
• Auto App updates turned off.

So no surprises.

Any luck fixing this?

Happening to a friends phone as well. iPhone XR with latest update.

Force restart made no difference for me and neither did clearing Safari data. Turning off JavaScript does but so many sites need it that didn’t last long

Thanks Whydave. Maybe I’m not quite understanding. When I did what you said, and I pulled the screen down, the search box shows up again. But as soon as I type it disappears.

The same issue happens with the address bar at the bottom for me, so don’t think switching it makes a difference. The Google search bar just gets pushed up out of sight above the screen.

Yeah you’re absolute right but it can be a workaround until Apple decides to fix it in IOS 17

Safari and Google Chrome have the same Bug.  All other browsers work fine.

I think some Javascript upgrade of these two browsers is due.

My iPad is the same as yours. Search box in middle of screen and type directly into it 👍

BTW i've given up on safari and just use the chrome icon, and THEIR google search box Dosent dissappear...Come on apple, this is ridiculous, how can you not have fixed this

Me too! It is so irritating! Mine only started after downloading & installing 16.1.1

I have tried all sorts of things but none fix this issue.

I hope someone posts the fix soon, before I hurl the phone into the wall!

I am having this same problem and it is very annoying. I agree that they need to figure out a way to fix this as it didn't happen before this most recent update. From what everyone has written I should reach out to them so they realized many of us have this same problem. Let's hope they can figure it out and fix the problem soon. Thanks!
