AirPod Pro 2 Case Battery Drain

I previously responded similarly to another post on this topic although to try and get an actual answer I'm trying to raise the point myself.

I recently switched from AirPodPro 1's, and never had an issue with battery drain on the case other than when they were recharging pods. Certainly I never noticed the case battery draining unduly when sitting idle after case and pods charged.

My AirPod Pro 2's are different entirely though. Even though pods and case are at 100%, they will lose 40% overnight. I have disabled FindMy but even then they will lose circa 2-3% an hour, without any usage i.e., pods in case unused with pods and case 100% charged.

I am fully up to date on firmware also, so that's not a problem.

It also doesn't seem right that I should have to forego functions I might like to have e.g., FindMy etc, simply to try and improve battery life. This renders those functions useless to me.

Were I to be travelling and not have constant access to charge points, it also means the the battery lifetime stated by Apple is actually highly theoretical and cannot be replicated in "the Wild".

Can anyone from Apple comment on this/ recognise the issue/ issue a fix?

I later realised that even though I had disabled FindMy Network on my phone, I needed to also disable the same on the iPad. After I had disabled on all devices my airpod case stopped losing power, was 100% at night and the same in the morning. So that seems to be the issue.

the only issue then is that I have to decide whether to trade off battery against the use of the find function. If I lose the airpods with FindMy Network disabled it’s too late.

So whilst a nice feature, it’s useless to me until they address the battery drain issue. I could live with a minor battery usage/ rundown to use the feature, but 20-40% a day makes a mockery of the battery lifetimes declared by Apple in their sales specs in my opinion.

problem is resolved - loosing ~3-4% overnight

I opened a support case about this as well. It was closed.

I noticed it day one - but chose to not return them - and performed a suite of tests with and without Find My network on/off. Did not make a difference.

Apple's response was that I had to purchase AppleCare+ to get support on them, for Apple to diagnose my case.

(note that case quality is also an issue - the right bud often does not fully "seat" or "set" or "sit" in the hole, so they don't charge)

I struggled with the same exact issue. I'm tormented about battery drain vs. ability to find my devices (and/or "notify when left behind" - which, when disabled, cost a mate $2500 when he forgot an iPad at an airport.

However, the bigger issue now is ANC degradation on 5B58.......

Hopefully Apple, if it still truly harbours the mission of creating beautiful things, will address this issue soon and solve it.

As William Morris once said “nothing useless can be truly beautiful”. The FindMy Network feature with this battery drain is useless.
