Studio Display and Internet

Needing some education here. I have a Mac Studio Max with a Studio Display and there appears to be a conflict about the Studio Display's internet connection. According to the System Report on the Mac Studio, under Graphics/Displays->Studio Display it reports Online: Yes.

Under System Preferences-> Network the Studio Display shows Connected, Studio Display has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet.

  1. What’s the conflict about?
  2. What is the purpose/benefit of the Studio Display connecting to the internet.
  3. Is something wrong here?

I’m scratching my head here and looking for guidance.

The part that says the Studio Display has a self-assigned IP address. I’m the one asking why the System Report says the Studio Display is online but the Network preference panel says it can’t connect to the internet. Seems like conflicting information to me but what do I know. I’m not having any issues, just curious. Thanks for the response.

So what is being said is that even though the Studio Display shows up in the Network preference panel it really isn’t really a valid network connection and can’t connect to the internet?

I also ran across a thread in which it was stated that the poster used an ethernet-to-usb-c adapter plugged into a usb-c port on the Studio Display and pulled an IP address.
