Restore iPad from iPhone Backup

I’ve just got a new iPhone (transferred from android) and went to great lengths to manually set up all my apps, updated dozens of logins, customised screens and folders, the whole deal. Hours and hours of work. I’ve backed up settings and data to iCloud.

I’ve just got a new iPad and want to restore as much as possible from my IPHONE backup to the new iPad (really don’t wanna deal with manually downloading and logging in to all those apps).

I have an old iPad that has been used for nothing other that playing YouTube videos for that last year and has pretty much nothing on it. It is also backed up to iCloud.

Quickstart worked fine with the iPad pulling wifi login etc from my phone. The problem is that when I go to restore after that, the only device I see to restore from is my old iPad, when all the new app lists, data and settings are on my phone? How can I select to restore from my IPhone? The option doesn’t seem to be there.

It’s great you gave the detailed response you provided.

Are the Apple IDs on the iPhone and iPad identical? Is there any history of change?
Is your iPad running an iPadOS version greater than or equal to the iPhone’s iOS version? That is required. If not: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

That may well be the problem!

Neither is up to date (current is iOS 16.1.1 as well as iPadOS 16.1.1).

It’s also possible the Apple ID change is a factor. I wonder if the iPhone sees both its own as well as the iPad backup. Perhaps you can tell at Settings > [your Apple ID] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.

Update the iPhone, back it up to iCloud, and assuming the new iPad is current (if not, update it as well), try the restore again.

Thanks it’s resolved. I think I wasn’t seeing the “customise” option to click through and select the iPhone backup. Also I updated the iPad.

Weirdly the first time it only restored a handful of items. Did another factory reset and ran it again and it looks like a lot more are coming across.

Thanks for the response. I have followed the steps as per the guide, but the problem is that when I get to step 4 the relevant backup does not appear. I only see the old iPad backup to restore from rather than the up-to-date iPhone backup.

Yes they are both the same Apple ID. I did recently change my username / primary email while configuring the phone, but both new devices are currently logged in with the new details.

Seems that both are fully up to date, iOS 16.0.2 and iPadOS 16.0

Application code is not retrieved from a backup to a new device. Its data and screen location come from the backup, but the code is freshly downloaded from the App Store.
