Ventura display corruption on 5120x1440 resolution

I use a Philips PHL 499P9 ( 5120x1440 ) connected to a Macbook pro 2018 13" I5 2,3ghz running Ventura 13.0.1 using USB-C (Apple Thunderbolt cable). Screen scrambles. It was previously working fine on both Monterey and Big Sur!

Is there any fix schedule?? Do I have to downgrade to Monterey?

Thunderbolt Display black after update from Monterey to Ventura Mac Mini M1 After updating my Mac Mini M1 from Monterey to Ventura my Thunderbolt screen remains black. The M1 is working flawlessly over HDMI, the same for the Thunderbolt Display attached to a 2014 Mini with Monterey which I'm using right now.

Hi, it works perfect in Safe Mode.... full 5K resolution using Thunderbolt / USB-C. But, after reboot, back to square one... :-(

Hi Claire,

I use a (Apple) Thunderbolt (Usb-C type) to connect my PHL 499P9 directly. I also have a Windows Laptop, still working fine with my PHL 499P9 at 5120x1440 in 60Hz. If I connect my Macbook Pro to my external monitor and choose 5120x1440 (which is nativ resolution for this monitor) my monitor screen is scrambled / unreadable. When I tried different settings, I even ended up with having my laptop monitor being scrambled and my monitor working in low resolution...?... weird. My workaround just now is to use 3840x1080 resolution and a HDMI cable with a HDMI to USB-C converter connected to my Macbook Pro, but I have to use the USB-C port on right side to make it work (I normally use a port on the left side for my Thunderbolt-cable). If I use a port on the left side, it flickers to this scramble view a bit.

To me, it looks like there is serious driver issues with Ventura....

I would be thankful if you can help!

Hi did this ever get solved? I have the exact same issue with the same Philips monitor and a 2017 MacBook Pro. Monterey was fine and still is on my other Macs. Boots fine in safe mode. Then is no good when normal boot - scrambled colours / flickers in both laptop and monitor. No login items in the login list. Did a full clean reinstall of Ventura 13.1. Basically makes my monitor unusable. Super frustrated!

Hi Claire - do you know whether this is being addressed by Apple? Or do you know who we could contact to find out? Seems it is a well known issue, one that is causing major angst in the community, and does not appear to have been addressed yet. Thanks!

I expect Apple to fix this major issue. I paid good money for my hardware, and expect the operating system to recognise the resolution without having to do all these hakuna matata stunts, or having to resort to 3rd party apps to fix the issue.

If my Samsung supports 5120x1440px, I expect my MacOs to support it. End of Story.

I'm having the same issue with my Samsung Odyssey G9 5120x1440 display.

I was on Monterey, upgraded to Venura, and now my display is not working in the right resolution.

I also have the Samsung G9 (the first generation) and this fixed it for me (on my M1 Pro 2021 14").

I guess I'll switch it on and off when switching between my Macbook and my gaming computer.
