MacOS update is not working

If I try to update my 2018 i9 MacBook pro it says all the time "null" checking. Thats it, it stands there until I stop it. I tried it many times, even many hours. One time a hole day and nothing works.

Try a simple reboot and try again. If a simple reboot doesn't help, then try booting into Safe Mode which will prevent third party software from launching automatically during boot & login. See if the software update check completes now. If this works, then you likely have some third party software interfering with the normal operation of macOS. Usual culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security utilities....none of which are needed on a Mac.
