Visual Voicemail not working

After the update of iOS 16.1. I cannot get my visual voicemail to work nor get any notifications of new voicemail.

I googled how to troubleshoot this matter and tried everything. Restarting my phone, turning the airplane mode on and off, reinserting my SIM card, resetting my network, changing my voicemail password (would always say error try again later).

So I went ahead and reached out to my phone carrier, was assured that changing my password would work but had to wait 24 hours. 24 hours had passed and still nothing. Reached out again and talked to another representative, was told they were getting error on their end too and for me to wait another 72 hours to hear back from the customer service. A week later I did not hear anything back and again reached out. Was told that maybe my SIM card needed to be changed. So I drove to the nearest carrier store, got my SIM card changed and still no visual voicemail nor notifications. Was told to go to Best Buy and talk to the geek squad, they can help troubleshoot it. So of course I drove to Best Buy. Did some diagnostic and everything came back normal, nothing was found wrong with my phone.

Now I am reaching out to see if anyone is having the same issue or if anyone knows how to fix it?! I am getting frustrated, I already exhausted everything I can possibly do.

I got this fixed by:

  1. Calling Apple, at (800) 275-2273, to walk through troubleshooting steps including removing my VPN and doing a Network Reset. This removed visual voicemail from my phone completely, so I was told to call my carrier to take over.
  2. Called Verizon technical support, at (800) 837-4966, and they walked through resetting my voicemail. They said 99% of the time it worked, but in this case it didn’t. They routed me to advanced technical support.
  3. Talked to Verizon advanced tech support. They went through the process of “reprovisioning” my voicemail by telling me to turn my phone off, while they did it, and turn my phone on 15 minutes later. When I turned my phone back on, 15 minutes later, everything worked great and all visual voicemail reappeared that was previously hidden.

hope that helps.

I've been on the phone with AT&T support for hours, doing the same thing over and over. She clearly didn't know what visual voicemail is, and kept telling me how to access voicemail the old way. This has happened once or twice over the years and someone at AT&T had a fix, but that was ages ago. I can't find anything online either. I've done all the normal stuff, too.

Well, that's apparently not a workable solution.

Yep same…. Only with Telstra here in AU. We got 2 iPhone 14 Pros.. 1 for me and 1 for my wife. Converted from card SIM to eSIM. Used the migration assistant and everything worked ok. Visual Voicemail worked great on bit old devices (12Pro and 11).

My new 14 Pro works fine. My wife’s does not. Visual voicemail does not connect and we can see all her old Voicemails as of 9 Jan when we did the migration. Have tried all the tips I can find and nada. Voicemail at the carrier level is fine …. But the iPhone has lost the plot. Also getting the 1035 error when trying the update the greeting.

As this is my wife’s device…. I REALLY need to get this fixed to preserve household bliss…..currently running 16.3…. Last thing we can try now it’s to contact the carrier and see if they can reset her voicemail account.

same issue: Visual Voicemail not working. Been working with the provider and no resolution in sight. Tried everything. Went to apple store and still no solution. It appears to be a firmware issue. Apple keeps directing us to our carrier but the native visual voicemail is an apple iphone function not a carrier function. I can access my messages by dialing 123 and .......... but those same messages do not appear on my native visual voicemail page.

Thanks for your reply. When I had checked with the AT&T engineer, he did reprovision the account and her 14 Pro was there. After spending all the time that he did on the issue, it seems that issue is not with our account, unless he did not completely know what he was doing. Apple gives me the same response as before – the issue is with the carrier.

I feel like we are caught in the middle of an unsolvable issue with no solution in sight. Right now, since there seems to be this issue with a number of 14 Pro phones, it seems that the issue must be with phone, which is what the AT&T engineer claims.

I don't think this is a carrier issue. Multiple people in my family have iphone and with different carrier's. T-Mobile, Verizon etc. and we all recently are coming across with the same issue. In my house we have T-Mobile and when we call customer support they can't seem to resolve this issue and direct us to Apple? Looks like a game of hot potato at this point very frustrating since I use iphone for work and its starting to effect that aspect too. Have to make sure I call all my customers when I see a missed call to ensure no one left a voicemail that's urgent.....Hope this is resolved in a timely manner and no more of my time. I cant take that much time off work and being on the phone for hours is a major problem for work.....

This is the exact problem for my business as well. I’ve upgraded phones and switched carriers but the problem is always present. I’ve lost business because of this. The only thing that we can do is dial into our carriers voicemail to retrieve voicemails but you can’t pause, rewind or even use on speaker so it’s annoying. I’m seriously thinking about switching to an android phone.

Just wanted to link to a complete list of known solutions. You didn’t mention a couple of (minor) ideas on this list. iPhone 14 Pro Max on AT&T here. I only had issues with voicemail transcription- visual was working. The network reset worked for me, though I tried nearly everything on the list prior. Hope you have found a solution.
