Visual Voicemail not working

After the update of iOS 16.1. I cannot get my visual voicemail to work nor get any notifications of new voicemail.

I googled how to troubleshoot this matter and tried everything. Restarting my phone, turning the airplane mode on and off, reinserting my SIM card, resetting my network, changing my voicemail password (would always say error try again later).

So I went ahead and reached out to my phone carrier, was assured that changing my password would work but had to wait 24 hours. 24 hours had passed and still nothing. Reached out again and talked to another representative, was told they were getting error on their end too and for me to wait another 72 hours to hear back from the customer service. A week later I did not hear anything back and again reached out. Was told that maybe my SIM card needed to be changed. So I drove to the nearest carrier store, got my SIM card changed and still no visual voicemail nor notifications. Was told to go to Best Buy and talk to the geek squad, they can help troubleshoot it. So of course I drove to Best Buy. Did some diagnostic and everything came back normal, nothing was found wrong with my phone.

Now I am reaching out to see if anyone is having the same issue or if anyone knows how to fix it?! I am getting frustrated, I already exhausted everything I can possibly do.

I tried everything over several days. Something finally worked - don't ask me what it has to do with it, but it worked instantly:

Settings-> General -> Date & Time ->Toggle On "Set Automatically". Go back to phone app and check voicemail. Good luck!

I hope this works for you, too!

Anyone who says this is a "Carrier Specific Issue" doesn't know what they're talking about. I have had the same problem for months and months with ATT and kept getting the run around so I switched to Verizon. Using my old phone from ATT it is still happening with Verizon. I upgraded my iphone 11 to an iphone 14 and wouldn't you know it, it's still happening. I've come to the conclusion it's an iphone visual voicemail issue. I am now returning the iphone 14 and switching to Android. I'll post an update if in fact this does fix the issue.

I’m having the same issue, I went to AT&T they troubleshoot my phone they changed my SIM/ESIM, they even tried to put my phone on a different plane and still no voicemail, then I was told it was a Apple issue, so I called Apple talked to 3 different people one guy had my restore my phone back to factory line out of the box,and still no voicemail, then they told me I had to go to Best Buy because they have Apple support there which I did and they can’t do anything, so now I have to go to an actual Apple support store and see if they can help me. At this point I’m just going to wait for the 15 to come out.

I’m seeing iOS 17 is now available to download. Hoping the big update will fix this issue permanently. A few months ago, Verizon reset my voicemail. It seemed to work for a while. But then, after a few weeks or so, I was back to discovering multiple voicemails not making it to visual voicemail, but stuck with me calling and entering my password as only way to listen to them. I guess the worst part about all this is you don’t know you have voicemail sometimes unless you call your voicemail. That could be bad in an emergency. Well anyway, here’s to hoping it’s back to the way it was back in the day..

I had a similar issue on my iPhone 11 and tried the suggestions found on various websites.

I brought it into the Apple store and they mentioned that it was a carrier issue, but they suggested I clear our my deleted voicemails. I didn't realize that when you delete a voicemail it isn't really deleted.

1) Open the phone app

2) Select the Voicemail icon at the bottom

3) Scroll to the very bottom of the Voicemail list and click "Deleted Messages"

4) Click "Clear All" in the top right

5) Click the "Clear All" which appears

It worked for me after that. I had never done this in the few years I had the phone so there were a lot!

I had the same issue. Brought it to the Apple Store and they said it was a carrier issue. But he did ask if I “really” deleted all my vms. Scroll to the very bottom your vm list and there’s a “deleted messages” option. Turns out deleting a vm doesn’t actually delete it but moves it into that section. So every vm I had deleted over four years was still there.

I chose the “clear all” option.

my visual voicemail worked again after that.

I don't think this is a carrier issue. Multiple people in my family have iphone and with different carrier's. T-Mobile, Verizon etc. and we all recently are coming across with the same issue. In my house we have T-Mobile and when we call customer support they can't seem to resolve this issue and direct us to Apple? Looks like a game of hot potato at this point very frustrating since I use iphone for work and its starting to effect that aspect too. Have to make sure I call all my customers when I see a missed call to ensure no one left a voicemail that's urgent.....Hope this is resolved in a timely manner and no more of my time. I cant take that much time off work and being on the phone for hours is a major problem for work.....

It is a carrier issue.

Virtually every user who's had this fixed has had it fixed as a result of the carrier correcting something in their database, not by replacing hardware or by a new version of iOS.

Further, millions of users are using any given version of iOS without this issue.

I get that it's frustrating, but voice mail is a carrier function and therefore it's up to them to get it working correctly.

This is the exact problem for my business as well. I’ve upgraded phones and switched carriers but the problem is always present. I’ve lost business because of this. The only thing that we can do is dial into our carriers voicemail to retrieve voicemails but you can’t pause, rewind or even use on speaker so it’s annoying. I’m seriously thinking about switching to an android phone.

I had this problem for a long time, I fixed it by texting VVM ON to 144 and it worked straight away.

I also changed a setting with my phone carrier (telstra) however that only changed that when someone called, the voicemail greeting was heard. Prior to that it wasn't. But I didn't actually get the voicemails to my phone until I did that txt msg. As soon as I did they all came through!
