my what’s app back up is stuck on preparing for a week now. I have checked the iCloud and storage space, toggled the what’s app on iCloud off then on again, reset network settings etc but nothing works. I have more than enough space left too as I’m on 200gb

Unfortunately the hotspot was a one time solution. I tried again when I was on WiFi network of work but no luck.
Yeah I have the same feeling. And also good to have this with Apple, since I have seem some other conversations starting here now in the same topic.

Yes that worked for me too - seems crazy that we have to keep coming up with weird and wonderful workarounds, when the developers seem uninterested or unable to fix it.
after four attempts, the backup was successful, now we have to wait and see when the automatic backup is fixed.
Now it works! did not change anything during these ~4 weeks - and then just suddenly... hey 🙀

Great, I've been trying for days with no success. Now finally worked thanks to your workaround.
Saturday (14-01-2023) and tonight (18-01-2023 - 03.44 uur) whatsapp made an automatic backup. Hopefully the problem has been solved, or maybe it was a coincidence. We will see
