The Mac mail app opens with separate blank draft, I am unable to delete.

Mac Mail app has blank draft window that openings when you boot the app. You can't get close it or delete it. Restarting the Mac doesn't help. How do I get ride of it?

The Mac mail app opens with a separate blank copy of a draft form that will not send or close. I have tried to delete it but nothing works.

  1. Just check your outbox to see if there was an email that was chocked and has not gone out.
  2. If yes, then delete it or resend it out.
  3. It is okay with your email App now.

Actually I tried to figure out the same problems many times. Finally I fixed it just with this simple way. No need to take any actions.

I have a MacBook Pro purchased in Feb 2023 M2 chip. This problem just surfaced about 2 weeks ago. I have done all the above. Called Apple and did safe mode and problem persisted. Now I need to uninstall Ventura and reinstall. I note above that this did not solve the problem for at least one person. I am dreading doing that because I had so many incompatibilities with other applications (Dropbox, etc) although Apple reassures me that the current version of Ventura is much more compatible than the first version.

Has anyone solved this and, importantly, figured out WHY this has developed?

This issue can be resolved by 1) force quitting 2) some people say delete from outbox but many don’t see the email in a outbox 3) go to settings and assign outgoing server to email account even thought these values have already been set and accounts doesn’t hold on to them

yes these various solutions work. They are not practical especially if this happens very often like daily. A fix would be helpful

I tried a LOT of things and know computers well. First I tried removing each email account and then adding it back, no luck. What seemed to do it was searching and deleting any event emails that said "decline" (restarted mail, restarted apple computer, tried opening with safe mode, tried holding down the shift button while turning on the computer.. these might have nothing to do with the solution but I was trying the recommended tricks from other comments). From there I emptied all Trash bins. I saw three emails in my Outbox and deleted those. I then went to the Mailbox Tab and chose "Synchronize All Accounts". Issue solved as of right now, if not I'll be back soon!

The Mac mail app opens with separate blank draft, I am unable to delete.
