Yahoo/Apple Mail issue following update to iOS 16.1.1

Since the update to iOS 16.1.1 my wife and I are having a persistent problem downloading body text from Yahoo Mail into the Apple Mail app.

Headers download but not body content. The error message we get in Apple Mail is "The message has not been downloaded from the server". Then, several hours up to a day later, the body content will suddenly download.

This happens on both our iPhones, (iPhone 13 and iPhone Mini), and both our iPads, (iPad 13 Pro and iPad Mini), all on iOS 16.1.1.

We both also have Gmail accounts and these work perfectly on all our devices so the problem seems to be an interaction between Yahoo servers and Apple Mail.

Yahoo Mail downloads correctly to my MAC Studio running MAC OS 13.0.1 Ventura every time.

I have tried all the suggestions I've found on the net with no solution. Apple Mail on all four devices was working without issue prior to the update to 16.1.1.

Thanks @Dustin_R_308

Tried to contact Yahoo email support but they want me to sign up to a contract at £4.80 per month for 12 months before they'll talk to me.

They do have a FAQ on their help page but that's worse than useless and only seem to relate to Yahoo's own email app for iOS.

This problem only started with Apples iOS update to 16.1.1 so has to be something apple has changed.

Update.

Apple support phoned as promised. Connected to my iPad and looked at what was happening but couldn't resolve. The first support lady then passed me on to next level support who tried a few things with no luck - ending with me not being able to reconnect to my Yahoo email account at all on the iPad. The second support lady ended up having me me factory rest my iPad with the promise that I wouldn't loose any data - which I did - but then she cut the call off!

So now I'm left with a factory reset iPad and no further assistance!

Now I've got to work out how to transfer all my settings from my iPhone to my iPad and then get all my data back.

If this is the level of support Apple offer then it is very disappointing!

This is very poor on Apple's part, very poor indeed!

Further Update

Now have almost everything back and looking like it did before the factory reset. The major exception is that one very important folder is missing in the Apple Mail App! Contacted sky who have moved their email offering to Yahoo and they arranged for Yahoo to restore everything that has been deleted from my account in the last 7 days. All of my 'sent' emails relative to that missing folder are now there, but all received messages relative to it - and the folder itself - are all missing!

The original problem is still happening in spite of the factory reset.

Contacted Apple Support Monday 28th. A very helpful lady, Anna, went through everything with me and discussed what the previous agent did. She has now escalated this to Apple's Engineers for a solution or a workaround.

She says will call me Wednesday 30th. I'll update this thread accordingly following that call.

I’ve now had quite a number of calls with various Apple Support people. Haven’t updated till now as there’s been no real progression.

However, yesterday we noticed that there was an iOS update to 16.1.2 released for iPhones. Following the update the Apple Mail app on both our iPhones seems to be working in the main, with only minor glitches. Talked to another Apple Support member yesterday and he advised that 16.1.2 will be released for iPAD soon.

Hopefully, that will be the solution. Watch this space.

While it seems that the IOS mail app works better at times, 16.1.2 hasn’t really resolved the issue on my nor my husband’s iPhones and iPads. My workaround (lousy as it is) is to use the Yahoo web portal - mail.yahoo.com - via a web browser on my phone and iPad. The ads are annoying and I have to remember to check for email, but I refuse to download the Yahoo app.

I have the same problem. I can see my mail, but I can’t read it I called tech-support and got hung up on. If I rebooted my phone sometimes eventually I could read my mail in Apple mail, but then it would abruptly stop allowing me to do that I also have been using my Yahoo Mail app to get my mail which I find annoying for the same reasons as noted

I reinstalled my Yahoo Mail in Apple mail, and that worked for a short time after I rebooted. I called back and thought he got it working but it was was probably just the phone reboot so now it’s not working again. At one point he suggested that it was a Yahoo! problem, but clearly it’s an Apple problem.

The first person that answered the phone didn’t even understand the problem and that took 25 minutes and then she hung up on me. The second person took 25 minutes and we thought he fixed it but it was the restart. It says it hasn’t been downloaded from the server, yet I can pick it up on my Yahoo! app,

Apple mail was working fine this morning but then all of a sudden it wouldn’t let me read old Yahoo! Mail that I had open before and then it wouldn’t let me read new Yahoo! Mail and then it wouldn’t even tell me I had mail from Yahoo!

When I went back to Apple mail after I looked at it on yahoo. It finally did download the mail maybe because it was 45 minutes later or maybe because it was already opened, but I still couldn’t read it in Apple. I do have a lot of mail I keep on my phone, so maybe that is a factor and I am using an iPhone XR. I would like to hear from anyone else who has any idea if it’s happening on particular devices or with a higher volume of male. Clearly Apple doesn’t have any idea what’s going on. I would think if it’s happening to everybody there be more complaints, but it certainly happening to enough people that Apple should be investigating it further. Extremely annoying that Apple allows its people to hang up.
