I wasn't even believing it it seems stupid but after reading other comments it seems possible. So I give it a try and..... MAN IT'S WORKING again as a charm !! unbelievable !! thank you so much you save my day everyone

Not only did this not work, while my screen protector was sitting on my side table my cat jumped up on the table and sat on it. Now my phone has squiggly cat fur lines all over it. Lol. But thanks for the suggestion just the same.

I believe there is no long-term fix other than getting a new phone and since mine is no longer under warranty I'm not giving Apple the satisfaction of taking another $1000 from me. I can definitely live without facial recognition.

It’s definitely sad when replacing a little individual part of your phone cost almost as much as replacing the whole phone itself. Especially when everyone is complaining about how critical the elements are that are needed to make phones, you’d think they’d want people to fix things instead of tossing them in the trash and buying new. Just saying! I’m glad you had the coverage and were able to have yours repaired! I have an older model with no coverage so I’m forced to buy a new phone since it’s not cost effective to just replace the camera itself.

My 13 pro same issue after updating to iOS 17, tried removing screen protector, clean camera, reset settings and reset to factory. Began working after a simple smack. Not fixed permanently, acts up whenever it feels, could be 30 seconds, could be a hour. The problem always comes back. I don’t understand what’s taking Apple so long to fix what they broke. If an update broke it, shouldn’t there be an update to fix it?

Omg This worked for me too. I’ve been trying for days to get my Face ID to set up. Constantly getting “move iPhone lower” or “move iPhone higher “. I smacked it (it took a couple times) and then suddenly it worked!

Mine is now off and on. It’ll work for a while then suddenly doesn’t want to work anymore. Very annoying!

I have this same exact issue since 2 days.

For me it happened before upgrading to 16.2. 13 Pro Max.

Same with my iPhone pro 13.

Upgrading to iOS 16.2, unfortunately, didn't help.

My iPad Pro works fantastic with the same iOS.

Me too. Face ID just stopped working, now can’t set it up again

THIS TOTALLY WORKED. I’ve been trying for hours now and the only thing I didn’t do was factory reset my phone. Two tabs in my hand and it let me set it up as easy as new.

Did you get a solution?

Slapping the phone worked for me too.

Anyone ever figure out a fix for this problem?

I slapped it an i could add pic but it never worked to open up my phone
