Airpods Pro 2 resetting issue

When I try to reset by pressing the back button ( following apple support instructions step by step) first it will flash steady green then no light for maybe 10-15 seconds then flash amber three times then it flashes steady short time then off. Instruction says it should flash white. So what is happening?

Hello Tsinoy Newbie,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help reset your AirPods to resolve any issues with them. Let's make sure you're using these steps to properly reset them:

"You might need to reset your AirPods if they won't charge, or to fix a different issue.

  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case, and put your AirPods in your ears.
  4. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Or go to Settings > [your AirPods].
    • If your AirPods appear there as connected, tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
    • If your AirPods don't appear there, continue to the next step.

5. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and keep the lid open.

6. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*

7. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone or iPad. Follow the steps on your device's screen."

If the issue continues, make sure the device they are paired to is fully updated. We hope this helps to resolve the issue and get your AirPods to reset.

Cheers!

Why my issue is with step 6. It light flashing behavior is NOT the same. Mine did not even show the white flashing, it immediately turned green. Is it because it connected immediately after doing steps 1-5.

I have been having connection issues when I use wechat with the airpods pro gen 2 after updating to ios 16.1.2 recently. The funny thing is, using airpods pro gen 1 with the wechat app works even under ios 16.1.2.

In general, what happens is that when I call someone, it will be ringing while the airpods pro gen 2 are in my ears and I can hear the ringing, then when the other party answers, I will not hear a thing and a few seconds after, the bluetooth connection of the airpods to the phone will drop and then reconnect and I will see a message saying it has switched on the speaker. . But the speaker icon is also greyed out in the app so I cannot switch it to the airpods. I will also hear either the left or right airpod go out of noise cancellation mode and then goes back in the noise cancellation mode. Then once it reconnects via bluetooth, I wont hear anything and the other party won't hear me. Eventually another message shows up saying mic is off or not working.

We have tested the airpods in the Genius Bar and did all the diagnostics and they even changed the earbuds and it still behaves this way. So it must be something in Ios 16.1.2 that caused this to change as I was able to use it with wechat before under 16.1.1. Maybe you could let this reach the proper tech people concerned in your ios development team?

This is why I tried to reset it.

What I find interesting and made me suspect ios 16.1.2 is that the gen 1 airpods pro works fine albeit it takes 5-10 seconds before I hear somebody on the other line then it works well. Only gen 2 airpods pro doesnt go through but instead drops the bluetooth connection.

Hello Tsinoy Newbie,

We understand the importance of having your AirPods working as expected, so let's continue working on this together. In order to isolate this issue further, we'd like to gather some information:

  • Do you experience the same behavior with apps other than WeChat?
  • Have you tested this behavior when pairing your AirPods with other devices like iPad, Apple Watch, or your computer?

This will help guide us through troubleshooting and towards a resolution.

In the meantime, please install any available updates for WeChat, and restart your iPhone. Here's how:
