External Samsung 980 PRO NVMe drive on a new 24” iMac

Is it worth it to try to save money on a new iMac by buying it with 256GB storage and adding a 2TB External Samsung 980 PRO NVMe drive plus housing to boost the storage.

how to get increase iMac 24 storage I plan to replace my iMac 27” (late 2012) with a new 24” iMac. My current iMac has 3TB storage but the new 24” iMac has only 2TB for a high end machine. What can I do to to maintain 3TB storage capability? Is there some way to integrate an external drive into the storage capacity of the new computer. Thanks.

MacBook Pro 2014 Storage vs iMac 2020 & 2021 My old macbook pro retina 2014 was limmitted due to lack of storage for video/photo editing - i am therefore looking at purchasing an imac either 2020 27”with the USB A ports or imac 2021 24”. Is the storage on these enough? And do I need 16GB on the 2020 version ? Is there an argument for getting the new M1 even though I would need extra adaptors and maybe storage etc ? thanks sorry that’s a lot.

Yes that’s all true but fact remains, defrags will wear an SSD out (bring them to a crawl). Go ahead, try it (DON’T). That’s the real reason why they shouldn’t be done.
