The Apple superDrive requires a whopping 900 milliAmps USB power. "regular" USB ports such as the ones on adapters typically provide 500 milliAmps, max.
Connect DIRECTLY to a USB port on the chassis, or with an "all wires" adapter from USB-C for best results.
You can examine the actual USB power Required and Available values at:
menu > about This Mac > (system Report) > USB
.

how is the superdrive connected to your Mac? it needs to be connected directly to the Mac. it will not work if connected through a hub or dock. and if the Mac only has TB3 ports, you will need an USB-C to USB Adapter to connect it directly.
Thanks for the tip. However, Apple tells me the burner/reader is not compatible anyhow. Regardless of connection. Seems odd.
then you spoke with someone who was mistaken. many users are using their superdrive with both intel and M1 (M2) Macs. when connected direct, they work fine. and this also applies to Macs running Ventura.
