I have connected my iPad to a widescreen monitor but I cannot get the image to show up in the entirety of the monitor, the screen only showed a mirror of the iPad

I have connected my iPad to a widescreen monitor but I cannot use the entire widescreen, the image is limited to a mirror of the iPad display. Hoe do I get the iPad to utilise the entire display.

Basic screen mirroring should be available to an external TV or connected monitor with iPadOS 16.1. However, Stage Manager support for external monitors is not yet available - this feature being planned for release later this year.
