Apple Pencil Replacement under AppleCare plus warranty

I have AppleCare+ warranty, purchased with my iPad Pro 11. 6 months after purchase, I purchased an Apple Pencil. Within my AppleCare+ warranty time, I had accidentally broke my Apple Pencil.

With speaking twice to Apple Support and with purchase date verification completed and verified including having submitted the purchase receipt of the Apple Pencil, I had requested service of the Apple Pencil and brought the Apple Pencil to an authorized service provider in my area.

Let’s recap:

  1. AppleCare+ warranty verified still active by Apple Support and by the Authorized Service Provider.
  2. Apple Support and Authorized Service Provider also had copies of the Apple Pencil purchase receipt that clearly states the date of purchase.
  3. I was directed to bring the Apple Pencil into an Authorized Service Provide after verification of warranties and purchase dates prior to bringing the Apple Pencil to the Authorized Service Provider.
  4. When the Apple Pencil was brought to Authorized Service Provider, another verification was completed on the AppleCare+ warranty regarding the Apple Pencil for replacement or service and the purchase date of the Apple Pencil. Apple confirmed all dates of warranty and purchase and was verified dates correct for service or replacement, before I could drop off the Apple Pencil for the service or replacement.

I received a call from the Authorized Service Provider where I dropped my Apple Pencil off at.

I was informed that because “I purchased the Apple Pencil at a separate time than with the iPad Pro 11 I purchased with AppleCare+ warranty, that the Apple Pencil would not be replaced under my AppleCare+ warranty. However, under the warranty, I can purchase a replacement of the Apple Pencil at regular price.”

Why was I directed to bring in the Apple Pencil for replacement or service when the dates were clear, verified, Apple Support was informed, not once, not twice but 3 times of the dates and was verified by Apple Support twice before I brought the pencil in to the authorized service provider then verified again, prior to the Authorized Service Provider would even accept the Apple Pencil for service/replacement? I’m perplexed by the amount of times I had to verify dates and astounded by the time several people, including myself, have wasted in bringing this accessory into the Authorized Service Provider, knowing the whole time it wasn’t going to be covered?

What am I missing here? Please explain it to me like I am 4 years old. I wish to understand the point of verifying the warranty and purchase dates, prior to service/replacement.

If you purchased an Apple Pencil and it was purchased after an iPad purchase, that Apple Pencil has a one-year AppleCare ( NO + sign ) warranty.

Your Apple Pencil should still be fully covered for one full year and that is it.

IF you had purchased the Pencil at the same time as the iPad, when you purchased that paid, extended AppleCare+ warranty plan, both iPad AND Pencil would be covered for the same initial 2 year timeframe.

As it is now, your Apple Pencil is only covered for one year.

If you have had this Apple Pencil for less than one year and it is damaged, you are still entitled to get another free Apple Pencil replacement to replace your damaged Pencil.

The AASP is incorrect.

Your are entitled to another free replacement Apple Pencil.
