Esc Key randomly stopped working

I just woke up my MacBook Air a few minutes ago and the Esc key stopped working when I needed to use it. I can press it but it doesn't do anything at all. Can someone help me?

By the way, I don't usually shut down my mac, just put it to sleep (closing lid while on). Is this a factor of why?

Thanks.

Hi there ntrainproductions,

Putting your Mac to sleep wouldn't affect any of the keys on the keyboard. That being said, we'd like to help rule out some possible causes to that key not responding, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

  1. When did this first start?
  2. Are any other keys not responding when pressed?
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section 'Restart' here: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac
  4. The latest version of macOS Monterey(your currently installed OS) would be macOS 12.6.2. We see you have macOS 12.5 installed from your post. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.

Cheers!
